fuel question?

I have found out that my truck does not like Wal-Mart (murphy) fuel, my mileage goes to crap everytime I run it. A guy I work with has a Power stroke and has the same issue. So what gives ? Does anyone else have this problem? When I say my mileage goes down I mean like 3-5 MPG !

I have heard of this. From what I understand it does not contain an additive package and/or is poor quality fuel. Just what to expect from Wally World.

It's the ONLY place I've gone to get diesel since I bought my truck a year ago and haven't had any problems at all. Still hanging at around 14mpg in town.

Most stations don't advertize the Cetane rating of the fuel they sell and when it gets low you'll see the fuel economy suffer. I suspect that's the problem. Have you and your friend brought it to the attention of the station. They're probably buying the fuel locally and it's lower grade for they're cost.

I buy fuel from Sam's club occasionally and my mileage is not affected. Don't know if the fuel at Sam's comes from the same supplier, but one would think so.

Never had any issue with the Murphy's fuel. I do run PowerService every tank though not matter where I buy. My mileage never varied that I could tell hand-calculating every tank.

Not all stations buy fuel with additives so your local Murphy USA might be selling the cheapest grade of diesel they can get and hope you will not notice the drop in fuel mileage when using it. In my area I can buy Fleet Farm (aka FF) diesel with additives for the same price as Murphy USA diesel and the FF fuel gives me and others I know at least 1 mpg more then Murphy USA diesel.

Well I am just waiting for summer blend April 1 because the winter blend knocks a solid 2mpg off. I was just in Great Falls today and bought fuel for 1.83gal, WOW. I still can get 500lsd here in Helena and I think they go thru a lot of it as I see school buses and work trucks always pulled up to the island that has the lsd, it is about .06 cheaper also.
