Fuel filter

Received a letter from the dealership stating"over the past few years chrysler has seen an unusual increase in the number of failures of diesel feul transfer pumps and diesel injector pumps.Chrysler investigations have determined that a large percentage of these failures were due to contaminated fuel(dirty fuel). As a result, any warranty requests for replacement of either a transfer pump or diesel injection pump must be accompanied by fuel filter replacement records as specified in your owners maintenance schedule"B". Fuel filter replacement intervals must be adhered to or Warranty CAN BE DENIED. If you are servicing your own vehicle---PLEASE maintain service records with proof of fuel filter purchases."

anybody received a letter like this??

I have not received that notice, but I have a question. I may be off base, but the transfer (lift pump) is before the fuel filter, right? or do I have that wrong

If it is before, why would poor (dirty) fuel effect the lift pump, unless it's a pressure issue, a clogged filter may put more load on it???

thanks

You know how it goes Ron. THey'll do anything to get out of a warranty obligation. I have not received a letter either.

Why would the letter come from the dealership and not DC? If the dealer generated this letter from their finding it proves that they are morons. The filter is DOWNSTREAM from the lift pump. And on the 2nd gen trucks with the 24v engine when the lift pump dies the VP44 injection pump will use suction to draw fuel and will run hotter since the lift pump can't supply the extra fuel for cooling. An after a period of time the VP44 will fail from the heat.
IF DC would have placed a filter UPSTREAM from the lift pump and pump low and near the fuel tank there would probably be a lot less failures.
