frozen windshield reservior

Anyone else having a freezing and breaking issue with there windshield cleaning fluid reservoir? Noticed blue fluid leaking out from under my truck today on the white snow. I have two other buddies with dodges and both have the wiper fluid light on in the cluster.....

Well I guess I honesty can say I have know idea what it was rated for never really had to worry about wiper fluid freezing that I can remember of. I guess next time or when I replace the reservoir I will pay attention to that.

I bought my truck out of Texas last Sept.. I don't know what color it was but the washer fluid froze first time the temp. dipped below freezing.
Next day it was warm enough to pump again, so I ran it dry and filled it with good stuff, it still froze! So I added some gas line anti- freeze. It's been fine since.

That's a common problem with all vehicles. The standard blue stuff often freees when the temps are below 0*F or so. You can buy special winter blend that won't freeze until well below that.

It's been below 0* here for the last few nights. My Lo Washer warning comes on, but the fluid is not frozen. I hd a 2001 dakota that did the same thing.

My stuff froze solid 3-4 days ago, have a full bottle on the porch that's froze solid too. It is -19.5*s this morning, guess it will continue to be froze up today. Can't read the bottle to see what the freeze point is, too frosty on the outside - LOL

In the winter, or when winter is getting close, I never add water. Also never fill it up so it will have room to expand and hopefully not bust the container open. I've heard old men say to put a stick in your rain gauge in winter. When the water freezes it's compress the stick and not bust the rain gauge. I've been doing it and it works. Maybe put a stick in your washer jug.

Well I guess it's just one of those things what are you to do everyone knows in Texas we don't think about things like that. I talked to a third buddy with the same truck and his did the same thing. Maybe dodge will give us a bulk price for replacements and good fluid.

The good thing is I am a plumber so this weekend will present a good oprutunity to make enough money to pay for it .

I don't mix water in mine, use the stuff straight out of the bottle. I plan to try the 'better' stuff if I can get it cause the blue stuff is NOT cuttin' it.

There are basically 2 kinds, above 32° or -32° and some with Ice Melter...
I start using Winter Formula about Oct. 1, That way its mostly Winter stuff by time it starts freezing...

I haven't checked my wiper reservoir. I'm hoping its still in tact if it did freeze.

Edit: just checked, the fluid level is at 2/3 full and top is a little slushy (el cheapo blue stuff). (I should put my beer outside).

My low washer fluid light came on the other day. Didn't have any fluid til today, so I haven't checked it, but I thought it was strange that it came on when I wasn't using the wipers at all... I use the green -32 deicer fluid all year long. Guess I ought to go check mine.
