Front Ends: How Long Before You Replaced Parts?

6.5 years and 146,187 miles and I had to replace both inner and both outer tie rods. I'm going to do both steering links as well because the new ones are greaseable. My tie rods were going since early Spring, but I greased the heck out of them, and they were good till now.

Knock on wood, my ball joints haven't went, and same with my steering box. I'm going to do those about the same time my tires are in need of replacement.

Showoff! But that is pretty good.

My pside tie rod went out and replaced with the upgraded linkage at 41,019mls. Knock on wood that is the only thing that actually breaks for a long time.

You said the new ones are greaseable???

@ a 100k I did my balljoints. @ 290k I did balljoints again and upgraded to the '08+ steering linkages. Other than that it's just been the normal wear and tear items.

Does anyone here know where to get greasable tie rod ends for the upgraded steering linkage (H-46 recall)?

I would like to replace all of them instead of just the one that needs it, then I will have everything in the front brand new and serviceable.

I did try the XRF tie rod end kit from www.thetireclub.com, but they seem to be for the old steering, as everything is a bit smaller in thread diameters.

107k miles, my upper ball joints and one wheel bearing unit is going bad.
I guess I'll use a credit card and replace all ball joints and install a free wheel hub kit.

I think I had about 185 or 190k miles when one U-Joint went out (spring of 2010). I put new joints all around. I'm on my second set of shocks up front. I haven't really baby'd the truck either. In 2005 I drove a lot of gravel highway (Campbell & Klondike) from Watson Lake up to Dawson City, Chicken then Tuk. It was paved to maybe 25 miles past Fairbanks, then gravel again up the haul road to Coldfoot. Oh, and this was in the early spring (read frost heaves).

Now I'm at ~238k miles and another trip up North in '10, this time to Inuvik (about 450 miles of gravel on the Dempster). Front end was checked 2 months ago, seems to be still good.

Stock front end, stock tires.

Hubs @ 110k and 220k
Ball joints @ 70k and 140k and 210k - put xrf joints in last time will see if they last any longer than others
Put in 08 steering linkage upgrade w pitman arm & steering stabilizer / sway bar bushings & end links / 4 new shocks - all at 220k replacing all the original parts and they had some more life in them just felt I was on borrowed time

Oops I forgot - front axle ujoints at 200k

my 04.5
- U-Joints at ~75K (started clicking bad)
- Wheel Bearings at ~80K (broke ABS wire, bearings had just a bit of play. Replaced both with Timkens)
- Steering box at 86K (was leaking)

New England winters take their toll...
