Cool Free Dodge funny money!

I missed the boat but you don't have to! I picked-up a bunch of brochures at the Dodge dealership on the way out the door after putting down a deposit on my new truck. One of them happened to be for the Dodge Rewards Visa credit card. The reward is a 5% credit towards future purchases whenever you use it at a Dodge dealership (parts, service, showroom, anything). This can really add-up over time, especially if you are buying a new vehicle. I signed-up for the card anyway because I'm sure there will be lots of other "opportunities" for me.

www.dodgecreditcard.com

PS: I already asked, you can't use it to make your monthly payments.

Sounds like what GM has been doing for a while. I know with GM, you can only use a certain amount of the credit towards certain cars. For example, you have $8000 saved up on the card, well, you can only use $1000 of it on a corvette, $3000 on a cavalier, $1500 on a pickup, etc. It varies from car to car. I don't know if dodge is gonna do it this way but I think it's a pretty asinine thing to not be able to use all of the money you earned towards your next purchase.

I have one of those GM cards as well. I have no idea why since I have no desire to buy a GM in the near future. I think I have like $1,700 or something.

GM Card

Limit on a GM rebate ? Last year had a few $$$ short of $3000 on my GM card, Was allowed every cent on a new GMC 1500. Must have changed something? Gonna check and if so, gonna be the end of that card. And have seen nothing in the mail re this change but that's not suprising.......

If you have a GM card you need to know which version it is. What many do not know is that the ORIGINAL card GM issued when they first came out allowed the card holder rebates on ALL vehicles. This card was a BLACK plastic one. Subsequently after a few years GM changed rebate plans to restrict how much is allowed by vehicle and model, some not eligible at all. From that point on anyone getting a GM card was under the NEW rebate plan. GM also hooked some of the original card holders with the original rebate plan to switch to the newer card. They did this in several ways-zero interest, zero balance transfers and by taking the limit off the amount you can earn. The old card I believe had a maximum amount of 7,000. Now the new one has no limit. But does restrict you to what GM wants to allow at the time you use the rebates. In other words, the next several months GM may decide to allow 2,000 on a DMAX if sales are slow but can change it to 1000 at another time if sales are strong. The old card does not have the restriction other than the 7G cap. So if you are one of the original GM card holders keep that card!!!. I learned this the hard way. I had one of the original cards in a joint account with my former wife, when I got divorced had to close it out and open a new account which you guessed it, had the new restrictions. Sorry for the long post........

FredBert - So each "point" is 1% of whatever you bought? The website says you earn 5 points (5%) on everything bought at a dealership including parts, service, etc, and 1 point (1%) on anything you buy period. I'm definitally going to look into this, as we're looking for a Grand Caravan for the wife in the next couple years, and my truck 2-3 years after that.

It says you can't use the card to make payments, but you can use your accumulated points to make payments (if you financed with Chrysler Financial). Click on the "Redeem Points Online" link and it shows you what all you can do with your points. It looks like 1 point is $0.01 of purchase power (10,000 points = $100 in service coupons). It's not a lot, but it's still free money.

Thanks for the post FredBert!

Yes, and thanks for getting this thread back on track. I'm not real familiar with the GM card, but it seems the Dodge one works differently. There is no limit to the number of points you can earn and redeem, except for the five year time limit. Also, they are redeemable towards anything at any Dodge dealership, not just a new vehicle. The downside is you get only 1 point / dollar of outside purchases (amounts to a 1% rebate). All purchases made inside any Dodge dealership are worth 5 points / dollar, a 5% rebate.

When I pick-up my new truck, I'm going to ask them to "switch" my $1000 deposit to the Dodge card. That's $50 worth of Mopar goodies for doing nothing! I wonder if I can put the downpayment on that card too...

Signed up yesterday. I've been waiting a LONG time for Dodge to do something similar to the GM Card.

Both of my parents bought Chevy's because the had so many points saved up... but both have come back to bite us... so now they have no excuse to buy Dodge

Why bother with this? My Citi Platinum Select gives me 5% back on everything automotive, including fuel! Also on groceries! and 1% on everything else! I'll take the cash back and not be limited to buying stuff through DC.

I called Citigroup specifically about this, and sure enough, non-fuel automotive purchases are 1% back, not 5%! But not quite all of my money gets spent at Dodge dealerships yet, so I think I'll get this one too! Thanks for the tip, jeepdude.

from www.citicards.com:
Cash Rewards
Need we say more? Earn 5% cash back on purchases at supermarkets, drug stores and gas stations [includes Diesel fuel!], plus 1% on all other purchases up to $300 per year.
