FM Radio reception . . .

Does anyone else think the FM reception sucks on their truck? I've had a lot of vehicles and I travel the same route. This is, by far, the worst FM reception of all cars I've owned. Mine is the combo CD/Cass model with the Infinity system. The indash changer was std with the Laramie, but I downgraded thinking I'd later upgrade and apply the savings to a Nav radio.

I'm eventually going to upgrade to either an RB1 or Pio AVIC-N1. Although, I guess there's an N2 coming out that has the realtime traffic monitoring system. That would be cool . . .

Anyway, anyone else suffering with bad reception or could my antenna or connection be faulty?

I have the Infinity system with the RAZ radio. I think the FM reception is good. Equal to the Pioneer system I had in my last truck.

By far worst of any late model factory unit I have ever used. Would be fine if I did not live 100+ miles from a good station. My Chevys pick up stations that this will not even touch.

I will be putting a good aftermarket unit in this summer.

Mine sucks. Couple of my friends with same system (Infinity) in their trucks, CTD's and gassers, have the same complaint. If anyone knows a fix, other then aftermarket stereos, let us know.

Mine sucked too. Installed XM Commander with XM Satellite....no problems except for bad sound. Replaced head set and speakers with Pioneer system, better sound...but FM is still as bad as factory unit. I think the antenna's are the problem on these trucks.
SO, install XM or SIRUS in your truck....

My reception is actually pretty good, better than I expected, but the sound quality of the Infinity system is so lousy that I've been reduced to just listening to AM talk radio rather than put up with the buzzing, booming, and distortion from the "premium" sound system that I stepped up for. Dodge, you should be
ashamed!

Speakers replaced, wiring crossed at the factory, intermittent controls, the Infinity system is the Powerstroke of stereos!

I am sure it is worse than any other car I have had. 98 Grand Cherokee with stock infinity gold was better. 89 Honda civic stock was better, 94 Wrangler stock and now Sony is better. I've driven all of those cars the same route to work and they were all better. Living in Atlanta listen to one of the top stations in town there is no reason for the reception to fade in and out. It may have something to do with the routing of the antenna cable. Some sort of electrical interference along the way maybe. I wonder if the 1500's have the same problem. Oh mine on the CTD is standard FM/CD unit.

Has anyone tried un-screwing the antenna and use some dielectric grease on the threads? Corrosion on the threads will cause a decrease in antenna performance.

Mine is pretty bad. I've checked all the connections, they seem good. *shrug* Maybe it's the 6-disc units?

Also my sound is really boomy. There is a TSB that mentioned some wrong wiring could cause the problem. I need to check that out.
