Fix for overhead mpg?

Is there no way to get the computer fixed. What good is it if it's so far off all the time? If my truck was still under warranty I would sure be all over it. I would pay if it could be fixed, but I would like to hear from some of you that have had it fixed first. Need to get my stuff updated. I have a 04 6spd 3500 4x4 Quad with 109k.

There's a computer flash that the dealer does to fix the overhead.

Fixed not messed with.

From what people have said some are better after the flash and others are still way off. I "don't" like taking my trucks to the dealers unless I have seen or have good evidence that is will fix tha problem.

My overhead was always very accurate - within 0.2 of hand-calculated (that's using the same pump, etc). Then, I had the mileage flash, and it did two things:

1. Improved the shifting of the 48RE
2. Made the overhead LESS accurate (now, it reads 1-1.5 high)

Did NOTHING for mileage, except made the overhead "read" higher, which is inaccurate.

Why don't the cip/box builders address this?

Thank you wexman. If they can read and adjust the fuel so you don't burn up the motor why not tell you what your instant mpg is? I've looked into the scan gauge some but has anyone actually used it and verified that is was correct?
Just because it kicks out a number does't mean it's correct. My cousin chiped and piped and intaked his ford and claimed 35mpg and then did it by calc. and got 10mpg. Must have paid a lot of attention to mpg befor not to know it wasn't getting 35.

How far off?
How often do you reset it? Mine tends to drift a bit high and low... but if I reset it homes in on a good number for a while.

guessing gage

I haven't had this truck very long. It is always over what I hand calc. It ranges if I reset when I fuel up before I start the truck or move it about 1.5 give or take .5. I'm trying to perfect my hydorgen unit and with that much fluctuation it doesn't help at all. I have tried resetting it on the move and of course the numbers varie a lot but you would think that if you are on a level road with the cruise on that it would show very close to the same numbers, but doesn't 3 or more mpg diferent????

Mine usaually read 2-3 mpg higher than hand calculated.Best mpg so far for 3 tanks is 17.5 mpg when trip reads 20 mpg. No big deal for me

Over head

Over the last 17 tanks of fuel (I wish that I had been tracking this since day one!!) the over head has differed from the hand calcs by .2 mpg or 1.3% difference. I feel that this is decently accurate. I have had the reflash done 2 times as my smoke at startup issue came back and the dealer told me that the reflash had a software update and that I needed the new updates.
