First time owner, have question!
When I started my truck up the other day, I noticed a white/blueish smoke coming out exhaust pipe. I either lasts untill I start to drive or untill it starts to warm up. Was worried that I may have a serious problem starting. Can anyone shed some light on the problem. The outside temp has been about 40 degrees F. Thanks
2004.5 and up some of them are having problems with leaky/bad injectors, this will cause rough idle and white smoke at start up, have your dealer check the injectors, but be prepared for them to give you the "your not working your truck hard enough" bit.
Regardless if the truck is not being worked hard enough, the injectors should not be doing that. Called the dealer, sure enough they said that it was my fault and that I need to start driving differently. The truck has less that 3000 miles on it, I have towed, but nothing very heavy yet. The dealer also said that just to run the truck and see if the problem stays or goes. It is just kind of embrassing to start my new truck up and see it smoking. Was just wondering if I should take the dealers advise or should I make them do something about it.
see if you can make them do somthing about it, they are becoming pros at telling people it's not been worked hard enough. thats BS. They told my dad the same thing with his 05 work truck and hes been hammerin down ever since (county pays for the fuel
) adds fuel additive, got the high idle feature enabled, and the truck still smokes and knocks so darn bad it makes me sick to listen to it... see if you can get them to check the injectors, they can do a series of test to determine bad/leaky ones...

Now you've got me going... I'm gonna have to go look!!!
Mine spit out some white smoke while on vacation @ 6500 ft. It would be 35-45degrees out in the morning. The heat-up coil light would actually stay on for about 10 seconds on the colder mornings. If I let the light go out before starting, no white smoke...or at least very little. I didn't worry much, it never does it at home, in TX.

Rudy, when I bought my truck last December I was also worried about the smoke. I was smoking up the intersections waiting for the green light. After it warmed up it was fine. Between advice from this forum and experimenting I found I just need to keep the rpms down until it warms up, especially when it's colder (below 40F). By keeping the rpms down, I mean below 1800. Hope this helps.
Take it to them and tell them you have rough idle when cold and white smoke on start up, and they should be able to flash the computer to solve that issue. They did it for me.
