Angry First pull... WOW... what the heck was that noise?

So, my first chance to play with the new toy... WOW, no difference up hill, down hill, the truck don't even know the trailer is there! Sure is different from the powerjoke I had before Very happy... then it happens...... BOOM.... Wife says "what the (deleted to save moderators keybord) was that? I reply "hopefully that semi just lost a tire" as I pull over... no such luck. Long story short, blew a trailer tire, minor damage, problem is, the usless dealer included a spare tire (at my cost of course) that is only load rance c on a 10'000 lb trailer!!! Held for about 20 min at 50 mph, then (surprise surprise) BOOM... It's gonna be a lllooooooonnng night!

Did you know it costs a lot more to get new tires mounted and balanced along side I94 at 2:00 in the morning that it does at firestone

Love that truck though

Sorry about your experience but at least you didn't end up having an accident! Hope the rest of the trip went OK.

Reminds me of the time we blew a tire on our brand new MasterCraft boat trailer. Dealer didn't even offer us a spare so it went un-noticed.
9:00PM out of town and nobody had a tire, I had to drop the boat in a nearby tire shops parking lot, family went home and I sleeped in the boat with still damp shorts and just a towel for a blanket!

Yes I now have a spare

Was the trailer new If it was then the tires should be covered as long as you were sure that they had the required amount of air in them
Oh well, I'm glad to hear everyone is OK. Atleast yours was not as bad as mine on a brand new TT 500 miles away from home on the first pull. Let's just say that I replaced all 5 tires with new ones and still had $1500 worht of damage to a 2week old TT

I should have left it on the road or blew the thing up

DFD, glad to hear no one is hurt. But hearing of two flats occuring back to back would concern me. I'd check the other tires, or possibly replace them.

I grew up on I-94; heck my old next door neighbor was one of the lead engineers in the construction of it when they extended it from 8 mile to Port Huron.

But about your trailer, I'm curious:
How heavy is the trailer? How much weight is resting on the axles? How many axles - tandem? What weight ratings are the tires? How old are they? How many miles on them?

BTW, I've got LR C's on my 9000 lb boat/trailer (trailer GVWR is 10k). 6 of them. Been on for almost 4 years now, no flats or problems (hope I just didn't jinx myself). Then again, there's 6 tires on the road, and if one goes bad, I believe there's enough safety margin for the remaining five tires to carry the load until I can find a place to stop and put on the spare. Thats the rationale on why I bought a 3 axle trailer over a tandem.

I always carry an operational spare for my trailers, even the little utility. Ever notice how many "abandoned" trailers you see on highways because the owners don't have a spare? Then again, many of those old hanger queens have no place on the road to begin with!

My second blowout was the load range c spare tire, because it could not handle the weight. I am replacing all 5 tires with load range e, so it will not be a problem in the future.
