Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
Anyone else get the letter from Daimler Chrysler informing you of the extended paint warranty? I've got a $40,000 truck that the paint chips and scratches if you look at it wrong and all they want to do is warranty it for 10 years or 100,000 miles. WHAT A CROCK !! Lets talk about diminished value / no resale because the paint looks like [censored]. I love my truck - HATE the paint. >
"If the paint on your Dodge Truck should experience an inter-coat adhesion failure within 10 years/100,000 mile period, simply contact your dealer to have the paint finish repaired free of charge (parts and labor)." A repainted truck is NOT worth the same as a truck with good paint !!! Someone please start a class action law suit!!

Re:Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
Wow, that's interesting. I wonder is DC is mailing these out to all of us? As of now, the Graphite/Silver two-tone combo seems pretty tough on my rig. Seeing how most of my other vehicles in the past were foreign, this paint seems much better. I only have a few small chips on the plastic stuff on the front end.
Re:Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
I too have a two-tone paint job (Forest Green/Silver) and received the letter in the mail from DC last week. It was specific to my vehicle and VIN number, and from what I understand is limited to a certain run of trucks made back in February/March. I might be corrected on that but that is my understanding as mine was made in 02/03.
As for how mine is doing, the paint if fine...there does seem to be a couple of spots in the lower silver color that seems a bit thin but no problems and all looks fine.

Re:Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
I also got a letter about the paint, on my 2003 dodge p/u. I think it was made 02/03. My truck is arctic blue, so far I haven't seen anything wrong with it. I have only had it about 2 months....

How about chilling out a little? Also, you need to re-read the rules you agreed to when registering on our site. That kind of language will not be tolderated here.

You want me to "chill"?? Why? Because my view may differ from yours? This is supposed to be a forum to discuss issues relating to Dodge Trucks and that is what my post did. This is an issue that will affect a great number of board members and there pocketbooks! As far as reading the rules and not tolerating the language - perhaps you should re-read them. I fail to find any rule that I have violated. There was NOTHING profane in my posting!! Yes, there was implied profanity! The word that you chose to "censor" was spelled with !!!!! and not IIIII's. If you are going to choose to censor all of the "implied" profanity on this forum then you've missed about 30 other postings and you might as well ban half the forum members. I find your dictatorial attitude as a moderator to be appalling!! Be careful everyone and don't get excited about anything or you'll be asked to "CHILL". If you think that I have broken any of your rules then you need to enforce them uniformly and NOT selectively!!

Well actually it would be worth more because it would be better then the factory paint job
I don't think their is a thing wrong with the paint, it is just put on too thin. Which is a product of better equipment to paint with and trying to keep prices down. Personaly I would like to see an option for and upgraded paint job, I would spend an extra $500 for it.
Also it is not a Dodge thing, the paint is junk on pretty much all vehicles now days.

Agreed....Try seeing how long the paint lasts on a foreign car. It will have chips on the trip home from the dealership. And if you think today's paint is bad....look at the junk from the early 90's. It peeled off like a shell on a hard boiled egg. With all of the EPA restrictions it's amazing that paint still exists....lol.

Ummmmm.....you do realize you're talking to the OWNER of this site, right??
By the way, I believe the site rules specifically prohibit the use of symbols in place of profanity. This is a family oriented site. Profanity isn't allowed. Accept it.

Your attitude is not warranted nor appreciated here. If you are attempting to get yourself removed from the forum, you are on the right track.
Strike two!
Consider this your final warning, choosing to heed it is of course your choice.

Re:Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
My sincere apologies! I had never seen that thread concerning not using %#$!@ for enphasis before. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse. Had there been the link in Mr Thorpe's post, that Mr Ellis provided, I would not have responded. I would have accepted the fact that I had broken a rule, that I was not aware of, and apologised. I felt strongly that I was being singled out as I had seen puntuation used in several other posts. Again, my apologies. My issue is with the diminished value of my vehicle due to sub-standard paint quality.
Re:Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
Group hug. ;D
Now...regarding the paint...I'm not happy that they use cheap paint either (even though I haven't noticed any problems with mine...yet). However, I don't see how getting the truck repainted will diminish the value....at least not if it's done at a quality paint shop. You shouldn't HAVE to get it repainted...but I still don't see how it would hurt the value if you did. :-
By the way...I don't think you were being singled out. I've seen many people warned about using @#%!@#$% and the like in place of profanity. However, with over 7,000 members, it's probably hard to catch all of them. That's one of the reasons for the "Report to Moderator" link at the bottom of each post, but I seriously doubt anyone ever goes that route (or at least I haven't).

Re:Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
In fairness to the thin paint jobs by DC, I can attest to the fact the Ford and Chevy are no better. We've got a fleet of them and every one of them has thin paint, scratches, rock dings and just to just look at it causes the paint to fall off.
I too would love to see an option from the manufacturers to have a "quality, durable, thicker" paint job when ordering versus the poor quality they're pumping out today. Unfortunately, they're more likely to cut more on the paint job to save money and then charge more for the same paint job we currently get from the factory.
IMO they need to take a lesson from Saab as my wife's car has a bullet proof paint job that has held up very well to the years of driving on gravel roads in Alaska. Wish my Ram had the same paint job....

Re:Extended Paint Warranty - BS !!
Hopeto,
I feel for you I really do and can't fault you for being upset. These rigs cost way too much to suffer this kind of a problem. I also have a different paint problem that I have posted on in the past that I am pretty much forced to live with unless I want to pay the extra to have the over the rail Rhino removed and put back on after having the bedside repainted. That's another story that I don't care to go into any deeper at this time. Keep the faith! ;D
