Personally, I'd like to see them do something about the "blue" lights.
I dont know how many times Iv had someone with those lights rollup behind me and they appear to have the lights on hi beam and they are blinding as all get out. Especially when they sit right off your bumper and the light reflects in the mirror.

 

I've had xenon headlamps on ALL of my vehicles and this is the FIRST time I have seen anything or heard anything about them being incompetent in the 6 yrs I've used them. I've never seen any issues with xenon lights, they take away the ugly yellow. Now I will admit some of those fancy cars with the European Hid lighting are way too bright for their own good. I have a friend with a 350z and his HIDs are a bit harsh on the eye when he drives up.

 

Not exactly what everyone is talking about, but I have been ticketed for running red marker bulbs and turn signal bulbs. Had a set of blue also but never ran them after being ticketed. In California red and blue lights are reserved for emergency vehicles only.

 

Xenon bulbs there self arnt bad infact are quite good its the blue coated bulbs (standard halogen or halogen-xenon ) that are bad. Our eyes evolved to the blackbody curve of the sun which contains a lot of red and yellow ( but peaks around green which is why our eyes are most sensitive to it ) and we get most of our contrast perecption out that light spectrem information. If you want a bulb thats less "yellow" you want to increase the levels of the colors higher in the spectrem ( which by usesing xenon in the gas mixture helps do ) not filter out the colors below blue. hope that makes sense.

 

funny part is that HID lights unless factory are illegal now, people all over this town are getting rolled for having after market HIDs.

 

I think the whole point of that stern guy's website is xenon light bulbs are engineered specifically to a certain type of projector headlamp and slapping xenons in your factory housing it wasn't meant for is shoddy. I had them in my F150. Looked cool as all get out. Blinded every other motorist passing me no matter what I did adjustmentwise. They made a certain spot in the road really light up good but overall reduced my visibility. I had the stock headlamp housings maybe some aftermarket projectors would have helped. Thing is the only xenons I've ever seen that work as they should are factory units. I tend to agree with stern. I thought how cool xenons would look in my Ram but then I remembered how crappy they were in the Ford. Some quality yellow halogens is about the only headlight bulb upgrade I'll ever do.

 

Good read. Hope they get the clowns with the Blinding blue lights off the road before they kill me. Takes me awhile to recover my eyesight after heading into them also.

 

it seems like this is a money thing. if you buy a new lexus with lights so bright they leave your retinas smoking you're fine, but if you try to upgrade your weak, yellow bulbs you get slagged and now it looks like you risk a ticket.

 

I do the same and haven't had a problem, but I had 2 purple lights on my front bumper of my '98 and pulled over once because of them and and was warned a couple of times about them when I got pulled over for speeding. I never did get a ticket but I always told them I would take them off later and could shut them off right then If they wouldn't ticket me, but that is Oklahoma.

 

It's the same way here. You can even be ticketed for having the blue lights on your windshield wipers.
