Evacuating A/C

Having a slow leak in the condenser over the last couple of year's,,,I've added can's of freon with oil in it. I've now read that I shouldn't have added oil. Now my a/c is not up to max performance.

I'm thinking of getting the system evacuated. Will this alone remove the extra oil, or does the compressor have to come off. Or, should I just leave it alone until I can afford to fix it right. Thank's.

You may/probably have too much oil in the system for the freon to expand/compress properly.

Evac won't necessarily remove the oil. It will, if left to evac long enough, remove any moisture in the system.

You will probably want to have it fixed right. However, if you want to do it yourself...
Pull the compressor - drain the oil
Install a new accumulator/drier/orifice tube

Refill the compressor and accumulator with proper oil.

You can also use a can of dyed freon. That's the cheap leak detector.

I just got my Passat back...Installed parts from http://www.ackits.com/ then had them charge it. You can also call them...they have been a LOT of help to me over the phone. If you do, talk to Jack; He know his stuff!
