Engine Air Compressor

Has anyone here took a Semi air compressor and installed it on your ISB? If you have will you tell us all were you found the parts to do it with?

Thanks
Mark

Are you looking for an engine driven air compressor? If so, Kilby enterprises makes one for 3rd gens (I have his prototype bracket with a compressor on my truck). Check them out: www.kilbyenterprises.com They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for.

That I am unsure of. But I think if they are, trying to get that to adapt to our trucks might be difficult.

I've got his stuff on my jeep, and on my dodge (I used to work for him) He is a great guy and knows his stuff. I haven't actually plumbed the kit in the dodge, but I plan to soon, and I plan on using that kit to run my airbags if I buy em.

Thank you for the lead on the site. I'm looking for something with allot more CFM capacity, and durability though. I guess I'll have to go to a Cummings dealer and lookup an ISB application with air brakes. What I'm doing is looking into putting heavy duty Dexter 10k axles under one of my trailers. If I do they come with air brakes. A York ac compressor just wouldn't have the CFM to run that application.

Thanks
Mark

Allot of trucks, especially the older ones, are belt driven. I have a 1976 D800 Dodge w/413 truck/motor home engine and the air compressor uses two V-belts.

Yea I might wind up getting the hardware out of a junk truck (IE. brackets, pulleys ect.) but will just get a remanufactured compressor if I go that route. I did like the way they had the serpentine belt on the York setup though and the electric clutch but I do wonder if a serpentine belt will pull that load. That way when I'm not hooked to the trailer I will have the option of cutting it off. The only place I see to mount one would be over the injector pump.

Yes, in fact that is the way that compressor is supposed to be run. A toggle switch engages the compressor clutch which makes the compressor pump the air, obviously. When the compressor clutch is not engaged, it just spins freely without the compressor working. Hope that makes sense.

Sure thing. I plan on running my engine driven compressor that I have with my ride rite air bags when I buy those. I also plan on running air horns, and air tools. It does it all with no problemo.

Having worked a little on the OTR trucks, I can for sure say they are belt driven. All the ones I've seen are 2 cylinder, about the size of a home 2-3 horsepower one.

Apparently there is a compressor that mounts where our power steering pump is (gear driven)and there is a spot on the back of the compressor for the power steering pump to mount to....
