Question Edge insight vs Quadzilla commander vs smarty jr.

Thinking of getting a monitoring system, without going to gauges. It is so the dealer, does not void my warranty. I read on other sites that some people have had problems with dealers voiding their warranty at the first sign of gauges.

Anyway, my thought is a monitor that plugs into the OBD2 port and checks EGT, Boost, Fuel pressure, Tranny temp etc.

Any pros vs cons on any of the products mentioned, would be great.

This for my truck mentioned in my signature.

The Jr. just checks and erases codes thru the OBD port.

The Commander can monitor all the parameters you speak of.
The only way to monitor EGT is drill a hole somewhere in the exhaust.

As far as the warranty deal, many posts have discussed this nasty topic.
Hit and miss on if the dealer is in a good mood or not.

if you are worried about the warranty i would suggest calling your local dealers to find out what they say about the gauges. you should be able to find at least one dealer that understands the need for gauges

thanks for the reply, I will contact my dealer to see if they honor the warranty after the gauges are put in. If not I will look for one till I find one that has a diesel tech that understands the need for it.

My concerns are that if it is in regen, and I shut the engine off I maybe hurt something or at least not cooking the turbo bearings.

That is good advice, cause the pyro will make it obvious that you have guages. You can't get EGT's any other way than to tap the exhaust manifold for the pyrometer.

I am liking the Edge Insight, but it does not tell you exactly which parameters it monitors. I am interested in oil temp/pressure, tranny temp and rail pressure specifically, but I'm not sure if these are monitored. I wish they would give more specifics on the Edge site. Plus, so far I have read that there are some bugs Edge need to work out.

I have the quadzilla and love it ease of use and features but wish it was a cleaner install instead of wire taps. I didnt want a programmer as I am also worried about warranty. My dealer understands that the commander can be just a monitor/gauge and understand I am using it that way. You own experience with dealers in your location will vary. Just call your favorite and see.

The insight is awesome,it tells rail pressure, trans temp, boost, collant temperature, anything you could possibly want about the regens,it will blow you away what you can read, turbo speed, temp out of turbo, temp in turbo. It is the best $350 i ever spend, easy install,0-60 times,it can check and clear codes. Only complaints are that the MPG is off (it says 4.5MPG on Highway),and what you select boost for a gauge it say the you are idiling at 14PSI and about 37 @ WOT,but when you select Vac/Boost it works perfect like .77 idiling and 21 @ WOT. I would go with the insight for a 6.7L,you can even read engine load and Throttle position. Any you hook it to your computer and read DTC,you can view a saved run ,you can do a 1/4 pass and see the exact temperatres in real time as they happen when you were making the run. I know I sound like a Edge Employee but the Insight is awesome

I love my commander and actually asked my dealer about it before I installed it and was told its just fine with them as long as it doesnt add power.its super easy to use and with the pillar mount it looks like it came in the truck . mine monitors fuel rail pressure, lift pump pressure, water temp, exhaust temp, boost and you can set it to alarm if you go past a certain limit which you can enter and also set it to defuel if you go past another limit which you also enter. its back lit and has adjustable dimming and was very easy to hook up. it will also control just about any power adder box you may later want to install. I absolutely love mine and couldnt imagine anything better.
