The key word here is rated. Notice how they no longer say 10 ply constructed. Just because a tire says 8 or 10 ply rated it does not mean it actually has 8 or 10 plies. It is just rated to carry the weight of a former 8 or 10 ply constructed tire. You need to be more concerned with the maximum carrying capacity more so than just a 10 ply rating. A larger 8 ply tire can have a higher carrying capacity than a smaller 10 ply tire.
