Dually tires
Dually tires
I posted this down in the Towing section too, but in case that section doesn't get the same exposure...
Time is coming up (real soon) to replace the OEM tires on my MegaCab Dually 4x and I'm wondering what many of you "dually drivers" prefer in tires. I've tried the forum searches and it seems that most of the threads are old.... of those that I can find about tires.
I'd like to stay below $250.00 ea. (this go-around) and the only place I know of to get tire reviews is on Tire Rack.com. Does anyone have any info about the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S , Kumho Road Venture AT KL78 , and the Firestone Transforce AT? They all are available in the stock size of 235/80R17 and load range "E". Thought I saw somewhere that the Kumho is a Vietnamese-made tire, but according to T/R.com, it had slightly better ratings than the other two I mentioned.
For the most part, my driving is on paved roads, but I do live in the country; which means I do travel on gravel frequently and mud/snow do become an issue in their appropriate seasons. So what do ya think? I'm welcoming all input. Thanks

Yep, looked at those, but on tirerack.com they only had a rating of 6.8 and two of the reviews talked about the center of the tread wearing out faster than the outsides.... even with regular rotation and proper inflation. Plan to do some more searching on this tire though.
I just bought the Yokohama Geolandar A/T from tire rack. They were $1,150 ish shipped. I used the Toyo A/T once before, but only got 35,000 miles out of them. Just burned through some BFG A/T in a record 30,000. So I'm trying the Yokohamas out.
For my dually, Michelin's LTX M/S 2's from Discount Tire... Negotiated for roughly what you want to keep your budget at. (It blew mine!!!) Love 'em, but I'm mainly on pavement and towing... Not really off road unless necessary.
I was in the same boat as you needed to keep the cost down. I went with the firestone transforce AT and am very happy with them so far. I have about 10k on them no noticeable wear, but beware with the AT tread they will throw gravel, other than that no complaints paid 168 per tire.

My factory Goodyears lasted 75k miles which I was very pleased with considering the moderately aggressive tread design and the amount of weight I was pulling on a daily basis. Second set, same brand and style but nowhere near the amount of miles....bought from TireRack. Third set was the Firestone TransForce AT.....awesome tire...was no longer hauling but they did last almost 4 yrs. Current set, Hankook ATM....love them...been on about 2yrs and still more than 1/2 tread left....pd $1060 out the door for them
