drw vs srw in mileage

Aights. Totally agree with most that youve got a huge butt truck here. I know my 99 weights in at 7200 with a full tank and me in it. And im sure the new ones are even heavier so mileage shouldn't be a concern

My concern is ive got 2 great deals. a 03 srw and drw. Same dealer has both trucks in all configurations. AKA auto 6pd 3.73s and 4.11s and what not.

Basically what im lookin for is mileage from owners of either and state what you have. And please let us in on the 4x4 or 2x4. Thats why im asking is all the mileages i see are "unkown"

I dont realy need a dually. Daily driver and only tow max 8k. So any input is appreciated

thats a hard one but if you want mostly mileage on a daily basis i would stay with a srw 2x4 6spd 3.73 and buy a feather to work the gas pedal. mine gets about 16 to 18 on the highway at 70 75 but if i slow down to 65 i can get 20 . ilike the auto but if i was pulling i would either go with a 6spd or an ats or dtt trans. but you will fined guys on here with trucks like ours claiming 20 + running at 75 with 4:10s. each truck will differ in mileage based on driving conditions and the driver.

my 2 cents

Mine gets 16-17 keeping cruise set at 70 or less on the highway and 13 pulling about 8,000 lbs. pretty stock minus a few exhaust mods(see sig) and 15,000 miles. I have a friend with 03 ho SRW 6SPD 3.73 4X4. has a MAC air intake, 5" exhaust from City muffler and performance, and Edge module. On level 3 he gets a hand calculated 23 mpg empty b/w 70-75 consistently and got 25 once, not sure what he gets towing, only been with him on empty trips

It seems that in the past, someone has said what the mileage differences are. My guess (not worth much) is that the dually will get 1 mpg less than the single wheel, the 4x4 will get 1 mpg less than the 4x2, the automatic will get 2 mpg less than the 6 speed, and the 4.1 gears will get about 0,5 mpg less than the 3.7 gears.

Thanks for the help so far. ANyone else is welcome to chime in here

Reason for this poll isnt really to find mileages per say. Just the diffrence between the 2.

Its one of those. I dont need a dually now. but in 7 years who knows thing. and checkin to see if its worth it or not. If the tops i see is 16 with a dually but can see 23 with a swr of course id stay swr. Plus i can then use the Auto washes haha. I hate rubbing cars with those brushes. Plus i hear 03 has thin paint ot start

Just picked up my truck last weekend and drove something on the order of 350 miles to get it home. Only filled up once and after running at various speeds on the highway with some in town stop and go figured something like 16.4 mpg. It may have been better as when I filled to start home I put in $40 and the tank read full, then when I fueled after getting it home I filled it up into the neck. I'll need to check my signature now and make sure I added 4X4 in there. I currently have just a bit over 500 miles on the truck so it isn't even broken in yet. In town the computer is reporting about 14 but no idea how close this is to being right.

mileage

My truck is a 2wd,srw,3500,6spd,and 3.73.This is the best configuraton for mileage.I consistently get 23 back and forth to work which is mostly interstate and back roads.Towing our 5th wheel to the races a couple weeks ago I got 13.8.Since it only weighs about 6900lbs I have 3000lbs. of payload to use.For me the extra gvwr of the drw wasn't needed.

My 3500 SRW 4x4 w/ 4:10s gets about 13.5 to 14.5 mpg with mixed hwy and stop and go traffic. If I unplug the EZ box that goes up to 15.5-16.5 mpg. I have seen 23 hwy when I had stock tires and no EZ box. Best now is around 19 unless I unplug the box, then I can get 21 or 22 mpg if I drive very passively. I weighed my truck the other day and with a full tank of fuel and my tool box in the bed it weighed 7460 lb.....

What actual mileage that the truck may or may not get is not important here. The comparison is. Although the differences may be small, the choices for mileage are obvious. A single wheel truck is not as wide and has less road friction from tires. It has to get better mileage on the smaller version. 4wd is another no brainer, the truck is higher, heavier, and has front axle drag. The 2wd drive is going to be better for mileage. Just the height will do that.

imho....

Of course. The whole thing is a no brainer. No doubt the swr is gonna net better. Like ive said im not trying to find someone getting 30 mpg and be like oh i can do that. I dont care if a drw gets 15 and a swr get 16. Just trying to see if i can justify the limited need for the dually in the future But thanks for all your input

To me, it doesn't sound like you have justified the need for a dually unless you have some future heavy towing in mind. Stay with the SRW if it meets your needs.

yeppers you hit the nail on the head. Right now i have no need for a dually. pry no reason for a diesel. But i know in the next 3 years ( long term haha) Im want to buy my 5th wheel in the mid 30 ft and dont want to be rebuying a new truck then. I figured i might as well get the 6spd either way

thats what im thinkin haha. Thats why i was checkin to make sure i wasnt gonna kill myself on mileage! So so tempting But not sure why i care. Weve ran an isx at school for about 1700 hours on veggie ( the MC Ds fuel) and then tore it down at the end of the year and it looked near perfect. So i mgiht give that a try Found another 03 4x4 dually. got 120k on it already though. but its a purty good price. and no warrenty to worry about surpassing. and obviously the truck must run good

King you are a man after my own heart! You know with these trucks I have found out I can get about what ever milage I want from 20 to 8 mpg. Somebody said something about it being the driver ? My dad has a 98 2500 4x4 that joker gets 19 to 20 all the time I ask him the difference between his and mine and he just points at me?
