Lightbulb DRLs revealed!

I found something on TDR which may answer a question which has been bugging me for months: exactly how do you enable the friggin' DRLs on our trucks! Can anyone verify the below? Maybe someone with access to a DRB. J BODY or Tomeygun? I'd love to show up my dealer yet again!

"under the fcm menu of the drb you can select dtr [DayTime Running?] and enable it, the high low beam select is made by either selecting canada or u.s. as Canada requires high beam and U.S. requires low beam... Takes about 1 minute to do it."

Hello FREDBERT I can tell you that before I picked my truck up from delivery I told my dealer to enable the DTRL's. When I went and picked it up, they were activated. Now my truck has daytime running lamps. They dont come on while the key is in the run position, which is good when your waiting for the grid heater to work, they come on once the truck is started and running, and they will go off when you apply the E-brake. I asked for this option simpley because I like the insurance discount for having DTRL's. Hope this helps you with your question.

You cant do it at home. It has to be done at the dealer.

Hey all, you have to go into the FCM (Front control Module) with a DRB and change the country code from U.S. to Canada then the DRL will enable. It will run headlamps at (i believe) 50-60% power. If you are near Gwinnett or Walton County, GA I can help.
Hope this helps

Nice fix for the 2005 models, BUT with the 2006 Dodge Ram series and future models how do you do it with the Starscan tool? Thanks for the help everyone.

If that is in fact correct, that there is a choice of running your DRL's off either Low or High beam, I would choose High Beam for DRL's. Mine were set by dealer and he did not ask and they are set to Low Beam DRL. So far, I have burned out low beams on 2 sets (4 bulbs) of PIAA bulbs running in DRL mode in just over a year (29k miles). I would rather put the DRL burn time on my High Beams to even out the usage between low & high beam burn time. Perhaps, I can find a use for my 9007 PIAA's with only high beam filaments intact? Would certainly make some serious auxiliary back-up/hook-up lights!

I believe the drl are run with the high beam at appox 50-60%. I have also been going through a lot of bulbs (silverstars), guessing its because they burn hotter, going back to stock bulbs, and adding a Randy Ellis design bar and extra lamps for highway driving to compensate for poor DC design. You would think with MB resources that a nice Bi-Xenon set up would be available.
