Double DIN radio face plate?

Has anyone changed out their radio to a Double DIN, and if so what kind of face plate did u use in place of the stock wood grain ('06)?

Also, what radio did you go with and are you happy with it? I'm guessing the Sirus factory unit does not plug into the aftermarket radio? Can the factory sat. ant. still be used?

I have a Pioneer D1 and its a double din navigation unit. I believe Metra has an install kit now because dodge cant use a standard size radio. I love my D1

Excellent link!

Does anyone know if the sound quality will improve much if I just replace my factory speakers with a better quality speaker? Would an amp be needed to drive the better aftermarket speakers if the stock radio does not have sufficient power?

Mine improved quite a bit by just upgrading the speakers and lining the doors with sound deadener....
Pioneer 6x9s up front, 6.5s in the back. MUCH better than stock...
Itll sound even better when I get around to upgrading the head unit...(maybe add a 10" sub and an amp)

That's what I wanted to hear. What did you use for sound deadener?

Do you remember if the stock speakers are 3-way or just very simple, cheap speakers? I guess upgrading to 3-way will make a big difference if they are not already.

I used RAAM mat, http://www.raamaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi I believe...
I got 63sq feet and it covered all the doors, the back wall between the bed/cab, and the whole floor under the rear seat. Ill probably get another roll to finish up under the front seats and roof.

The stock speakers are about as cheap as chrysler can get away with
I went with these Pioneers
Front

Rear

Sounds pretty good, and I actually have some bass now!
Itll sound alot better once I upgrade the head unit and add an amp/sub, but for now its still 100times better than stock...
(also too, I dont have the infinity system, just the base 4 speaker with no factory amp, wiring will be different if you have the nicer factory stereo)

I still have the stock head unit for now, but ill probably end up just going with a single din, just because I cant really afford(and dont need) any of the double dins...

If you need the wiring diagram I think I still have it somewhere(gotta cut the factory connector off the speaker harness, unless you want to buy the factory connector adapters)
Its not bad though, I will give you a tip on those 6x9s, use the factory spacer off the front speakers(little plastic ring, youll have to pry it off) to space them out, and also if you go with the pioneers, put the big box thing on the backside of the speaker towards the FRONT of the truck, if its rearward the window gear will hit it when you roll it down...

Any more questions hit me up.

Excellent advice, stacked! I'm now on Crutchfield's website trying to see what fits. This is the list for my truck...

Do you know what RMS and total watts the '06 base radio has? Isn't it important to match the speakers to the unit?

Forget the link above, it didn't retain the details for my truck.

And all the speakers I'm finding are 2-way. Isn't there 3-way speakers out there? Wouldn't that be even better?

Yeah, but I dont think with the stock head unit it will sound any better(2way vs. 3/4 way), till you upgrade...
My fronts are 2 way, backs are 3way...
Theyll sound much better than stock, and even better after a head unit, amp/sub

You'll need to order two parts to get a double DIN to fit the '06 Ram

http://www.leeparts.com/dodge_ram/ac...dio_bezel.html

http://www.scosche.com/scosche_carau...ItemID=CR1289B

The first piece eliminates the **** notches on the wood bezel and the second converts the oversized dodge hole to a standard double DIN.
