Door panel removal/blown speaker?

It sounds like my passenger side speaker is blown or something near the speaker is buzzing at certain sound levels. What is the proper way to remove the door panels to check it out, and secondaly does anyone have a good aftermarket speaker choice to replace it? I have the upgraded Infinity system, and really liked the factory sound.

MadHat, maybe PM me also? I have a slight rattle/squeak in one door panel and haven't really looked on how to take them off. Just seems like the old days, it was a pain, always bent or broke one of those clips and then it never went on good after that. So haven't looked and just deal with the little squeak now and then on bumpy roads. But I just heard it wasn't bad and it was easy. Just hope easy to do in 10* weather outdoors. LOL

Thanks.

The good news is the clips used are MUCH better than those old ones you're talking about (I've broken many of those myself). Procedure on my '06 was as follows:

1. You remove the two small phillips screws at the bottom of door panel.

2. Using 10mm socket w/extension, remove bolt hidden under and behind door handle. To avoid losing that bolt only unscrew it until the door handle will come off. Any further and it comes unthreaded from the handle and can fall down inside the door.

3. Remove large phillips screw that's behind the door handle you just removed. Then remove other large phillips screw at top-front near the window.

4. To pop the panel off make sure you pull UP. I wasted a bunch of time trying to pop it straight off (pulling out instead of up). Grab the panel with both hands and with one swift and firm motion, pull directly up. It should pop right off....be careful because the power window/lock wiring is very short and tight.

Once you do the first one it's a piece of cake. I'm amazed that I was able to get all 4 back on without any broken parts and no rattles (yet...fingers crossed and knocking on wood).

The infinity speakers are 2 ohm on my wifes durango. You have to replace it with a 2ohm speaker, or else it won't produce hardly any sound. Most after market speakers are 4ohm i believe. I found this out the hard way when she blew one, and replaced just the one speaker with an aftermarket, and it sounded like crap. Checked around and found out that either you replace all the speakers, or replace the blown one with a 2ohm. I got one from a wreck yard for 5 bucks, as they are very pricey at the dealer. Hopes this saves you some grief.

Hey, I don't want to sound argumentative, but I just replaced the front door speakers with the best speakers Circuit City had. I think they were Eclipse or something. I was told the same thing about the different ohms between the Infinity and after-market. Guess what, mine sound GREAT!!! Just turn the volume up a bit. I'm somewhat of an audiophile and I spend ALOT of time in my truck, so I'm not going to put any junk in there. I just don't have the bucks to go with a totally new after-market system.
After hearing these speakers work with the Infinity system, I'm saving up to replace the rear door speakers next.
Just my $0.02 worth.

That's cool, just thought I would share my experience for what it's worth.

Just a comment here. The Infinity System on my 99 1500 was a piece!
Cheap paper speakers with almost no power to drive 'em. I'd never get the OEM premium sound package on a vehicle again!
