Door Chime is killing me

I know that I am not the only one who likes to listen to my radio while working on my truck. How do I get the chime to stop? On my second gen all you had to do was depress the button on the driver's side door pillar and the chime would stop. This thing has no button, and when I shut and reopen the door it goes on back chiming. If I lock my keys in the truck someday so be it, but I got to get this thing to SHUT UP!

Tried those. Could not find which wire to cut, and I am working under the dash on the driver's side so I have to keep the front door open.

This drives me crazy also. Unfortunately there is only one chime for all alerts/alarms. It is integrated in the dash cluster and almost impossible to disable without causing MIL and codes.

Passenger side will not chime when open and I guess the back doors wont either, but I have not found any way to stop the drivers door from chiming when open and the key in the ignition in any position.

The door lock mechanism I believe is all integrated with the computer and controls, so if you cut the wire(s) to stop the chime you will probably stop the door open/lock from working also. Still looking through wiring diagrams.

I believe it said how to turn off the chime in the manual.
I turned mine off for the seat belt warning, but I thought you could turn it off for the doors too.

Same here there is an easy way to fix that. Just take a flat head screwdriver and use it to lock the latch (as if you closed the door). Remember to pull the handle to "open the door". Some times you have to use the screwdriver and the door handle to get the latch to return. Works everytime! Dont have too many cold ones and try to close the door you will get poed.

natebert,

I have turned the selt belt chime off and reprogrammed to open all doors at once, but I did not see any progamming that would turn of the chime on door open with key in ignition. If you know what page, please let me know. I would be in your debt.

redneckonthenet,

That is really using your head. Some times the simplest answer is the hardest for us know-it-alls to see. Thanks.

This is going to sound hokie...

Before I got my DC I had a 99 Powerjoke and no matter how much I ripped out under the dash they made it almost impossible to disable that chime by cutting the wire to the chime(bell) so I decided to fool the truck into thinking the door was always closed by taking the panel off the door and yanking the wire to the switch in the door. Worked great BUT, doing that didnt let the interior light come on when you opened the door, a minor inconvenience at the time but, I was willing to deal with it. I have not done it to my Dodge and it doesnt bother me that much but, I bet if you wanted to it would be that simple. Hope this may give you another idea.

Turning off the seat belt chime took me a few tries. Do exactly as the instructions say. I dont remember the exact instructions, but wait until light goes off, etc. The most important thing is to buckle / unbuckle / buckle exactly three times, not more.

Like I said it took me at least three tries and maybe more before I got it right.

I have very good chimes in my vehicles. I located the speaker and filled it with RTV. It shut that thing right up. Made it a good chime real fast!!!
If you calibrate the amount of RTV you put in it, you can control the volume of it. The more you put in it the quieter it becomes.
Cost; about 10 cents
