Well, it was 30 deg this morning and started it up early to see if it would ramp up. Never went above its standard idle.

Is it the area I live in, and they shipped my truck with out this program?

I am at a lost. Let that thing idle for 15 min. and the temp never rose above 140. ???

Mine has done the high idle consistently since we started having temps below 25 degrees. It seems that the high idle doesn't really want to kick in unless it's below 25 degrees...and not below 32 as I've read something folks believe. My understanding from my service manager is that all the '03 and '04 models have it standard from the factory so I think you might have to take a trip further north to see if it works....or give it and month and hopefully winter will hit you long enough to both shovel and try it out!!

By the way, the last three days here in Kenai we've had nightly temps into the low 30's and the high idle never kicked on the next morning...this morning when I started it, the temp was 23 degrees on the overhead as well as the house thermometer...high idle worked just fine this morning.

[/quote]I dunno about your fast idle, but I'll bet the parameters for it to kick-in weren't met. Does the truck run good? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're that concerned, take it back for a look-see.

But, do you expect your truck to rise above 140 while idling for 15 minutes in the cold morning? It won't; you need to put a load on the engine for it to warm up (or plug it in for some immediate warmth). Idling these things isn't loading it. Your truck doesn't need help, it needs to be driven.

Prolonged idling first thing in the morning just to see if high idle kicks in, especially cold mornings is probably the worst thing you can do to your CTD. RTFM.

 

Not sure about the '04s, but my 03 has it and I'm in Louisiana!
It got down into the 30's here not too long ago and on startup, she went to 1000rpms, noisey and then saw the thingy with the alternator indicating the heater was operating.

 

Supersport, maybe 04's need to have it enabled, or yours doesn't work.

I changed the fuel and air filter this morning. Truck was plugged in and on the timer for about 4 hours by the time I got out there. I checked the overhead temperature readout when I unlocked it to open the hood and it said 45 (later dropped to 35 when I took it for a spin afterwards).

After the filter changeouts, I started her to look for leaks and put stuff away, and in two minutes she ramped up nicely to a 1000 rpm idle.

 

It seems like the 03's have it, what about the 04's.

And if my dealership can't tell me ya or ney, what should I do?
