DC pays to fix my '03 A/C

The A/C went out on my '03. Dealer said "Recirc. or Blend Doors broken". Only 34,000 miles, but NOT covered under extended warranty! DC offered "one time assistance on all but $100 co-pay". Dealer is going to replace entire HVAC Housing. They will also replace the orifice line, ("just to humor me"), as long as I pay for it. Should I have the orifice line replaced with the new 0.067" orifice line? If so, is "55056808-AA" the correct part number? Anything else I should know or do before I take it in on the 18th? Thanks!

Your part # is correct for '06 fitment, but should work fine on yours. The orifice is normally like a little filter (screen) that comes clean when the freon is recovered. Shoot but for $16, I would. Any charge for labor on that? Did you have any problems with it freezing up or no airflow from vents? Both of my '03s had to have new HVAC boxes put in, plus move the fin sensor in the EVAP. Also, get a temp reading IN WRITING on the repair order of before and after repairs to CYA with a one time help repair. Good luck!

uh, unless a/c&r has changed in the 7 years i have been out of the field. the orifice is used as the expansion device which allows the refrigerant to go from a liquid to a gas, thus absorbing heat as it changes state through the evaporator under the dash. not for filtering. the receiver/dryer(little black tank under the hood) does the filtering.
but, let them change it

First, it was 60 deg. air from drive side and 80 deg. from pass. in recirc. mode, full cold, blower on high, outside air 104 degrees. Then, on a trip last Sunday, the blower quit blowing and the air was warm (not fun on a 112 degree day in Arizona!). The next morning, it was back to the 60/80 with a good blower??? I know nothing about A/C, so your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dodgezilla04. I know nothing about A/C. So, what benefit (if any) will there be in changing the orifice from .062" (stock?) to .067"? I had understood from others that it would remove the imbalance between driver & pass side temps.

Man I'm gonna knock on wood before I hit "post".

My '03 must have been made on the best day of the week, with parts made on the best day of the week because my AC as well as every other part of the truck is working A-OK!

You're lucky. Mine is broken and will stay that way for the foreseeable future.

Mine does the freeze up thing when it's raining or real humid, (which is all the time in Florida), the air just stops blowing. I turn the AC off for a few minutes and slowly the air starts blowing again. What does the dealer need to do to fix the problem? I have the extended warranty so I should be covered.

What and where is the sensor that needs to be relocated on these trucks? Im pretty sure that all I need is that and a new compressor.

I have the extended warranty, too....guess what, it DOESN'T cover the A/C! Fortunately, DC agreed to cover it with a $100 deductible (repairs are almost $800). The freezing thing has to do with relocating a sensor that I believe is in/on either the condensor or the evaporator. Good luck.

Thanks for the response, at least I'll have a comeback when the dealership gives me that stupid look that I know is coming.
