In Dash Nav unit
I'm certainly no parts expert, but this is what I found in a few books.
In the 2008 MOPAR book RER's are listed, but only for the Dakota, Durango, and the Nitro. The part number he is listing doesn't even come up as valid. Could be a change up issue between US and CAN parts or something. But the radio and the list of vehicles on his bid page show no trucks. So that aspect is true I suppose.
The 2009 book shows that the RER is only available for the DS's. 1500's. Which makes sense since it had the new body and interior and the HD's were a year behind.
2010 book, RER comes in two possible models for the 1500 (with or without kit), and only the 2010 RER Full Kit for the '10s.
The REC.
This one is confusing me a bit. Part# 5064184AG is supersedes back to 82208653AL. Both show that they work in 2006 to 2010 (All Rams). The 822 part goes on about how it will come with the DVD-ROM geographic disc. The next part mentions nothing. On the 04 T&C I know (MIL
) there is two places for DVD/CD's. The lower one takes movies or the GPS disk. 6 Pack music on top. I wonder if the 506 part does away with the second drive. It is touch screen, but certainly not the MyGig with the 20/30G HD.
In your 2008 I think you can use the REF(AM/FM 6 pack, and mp3's on a CD disk. #5064173AM/AN), REC Mentioned above, and the Sirius Kit (82210433)
Just about all of the available radios will work in 2008 Durangos, Nitros, and Dakotas.

Thanks for all of the info!! Great stuff!
So Pooter..............
Dealer dude says the MyGig will not work in my '08?????
As for the Nav antenna........... i will have to install a new one? Stupid question following, but it will not work with the Sat antenna?
Also, Dealer dude says "if you get a used one (REC unit) make certain that the mfg part number ends in ....656AJ or AK or AL, with AL being the recent update."
I would prefer a MyGig though, but don't want to pay $$ even for used one if i'm no absolutely certain it will fit in my '08 MC!

LOL, works just fine in my truck

Just need a lock pick harness to swap it in, heres my install.

You need a low-speed unit if you want to swap one in.
For the antenna, just need a nav antenna that works with the REC or My Gig.
Sirius will still work the same for the REC(the sirius box is behind the glove box)
For the My Gig it has a built in tuner, so you just plug your antenna cables into the radio itself, skip the box behind the glove box, but youll have to transfer the sirius service.
As for the REC units, like I said the '08+s have the port for the rear camera, some '07s do too, as for updates, its just the newest disk, which you can buy or download pretty cheap, I have an AE sitting at the house here...
Check out the customer reviews before you buy an aftermarket unit. The Pioneer got some pretty poor reviews from some people. I also looked at a Kenwood unit that fits in the smaller stereo slot of my '05. It has a large slide-out touch-screen and got good reveiws, except the cost. Also Kenwood uses Garmin for their GPS/nav stuff, which I consider important. Found both at BestBuy, but I'm sure there are on-line suppliers that have them for less.
though. I bought mine used about a year ago and it was only 1 generation old at the time. Price was much cheaper used. I think the unit itself was $1200+, and the BT/ipod cable were a few hundred extra. They also have a really good AVIC forum out there, and the guys will usually post the newest NAV dvds. Alot of different flavors out there and if you want the best, you will pay for it. I have been happy with mine and see no reason to upgrade to the the newest(Mostly GUI changes on the newer ones). Whether you buy new or used just read the reviews and see what features are included or what you will have to pay extra for. Here is a review by Cnet on mine

I just wanted to throw in, my nav unit is failing. My screen cuts out. Sometimes, it'll last a minute sometimes ten, but then it'll cut out. I can work my radio stations, so they work, as does then my iPod connection but have lost all CD and NAV uses. If it lights up and i'm left on CD or nav im stuck, no switching so i've left it on the radio. Only the radio channels 1-6 works as does the volume control. Dodge said $750 for a refurb unit with exchange and suggested this over a new unit which would have the same warranty.

There is a common problem with the joystick breaking(and if you search a company that sells the replacement one) Not sure if that would lead to some of the problems you're having.
Id find a used one, or replace it with an aftermarket unit for $750

Hey Pooter
I've found some decent buys on factory REC's around $800 and claiming to be NEW! However after reading your post about the MYGIG's you have sparked my interest in that scenario!
So, i have found one here in Houston on craigslist for $800 (if he still has it) and the part # is 5064401AI and it came out of a Grand Cherokee. Your link that you posted stated that and that it was also a "LOW BUS"??? Is that the same as "low speed" as you had mentioned?

Pooter!
Coastaletech.com website is wacked!
Every time i attempt to navigate away from their home page to another page it locks up!

Which leads me to my next question since i can't find on-line..........what did you pay for that lock pick?
Thanks.

)It was $280 or so when I bought it a year ago, but I think theyve come down.
EDIT
looks like its $200 with the multimedia harness now...(way cheaper than direct from coastaletech)

OK, here's what i got:
**Low speed MYGIG (sittin on my desk)
On the way is:
**Nav bezel for truck
**CoastalETech MyGig lockpick adapter v.3 w/audio-video harness
**CoastalETech Back up camera
**GPS antenna
NOW............
I should be good to go according to your other post when you did your install.
You said about the Sirius antenna:
What exactly do you mean by "skipping" the box behind glove box?
Naturally i don't have my dash apart yet but want to be well informed before i go ripping it apart!
By the way, what is the easiest way to remove the stock bezel/dash, etc...?
Thanks

IIRC the mygig has a built in sirius tuner, so you dont need the box thats behind the glove box as a tuner to transfer the signal to the radio.

I havent hooked up sirius yet(dont even have a factory antenna to hook it up yet anyway, truck didnt come with one, go figure) but pretty easy to try, while you have it semi-installed, hook up the sirius antenna wires directly, bypassing the box, and if it doesnt work, plug it back in. Its right behind the glove box door, pop the tabs on the side, let it all the way down and look up under the bottom of the dash, and there it is.
For the dash, remove the cubholders(or floor console), then remove the lower dash trim panel in the cupholder area, look up underneath and youll see two screws that hold the bottom of the dash bezel, pull those and then just pry the whole bezel apart all the way around.
Here you go, even found a youtube video
