Exclamation MyGig/Nav install in a Ram

Finally got around to finishing up my bezel and had the time to install it all today...
Pretty straight foward, MyGig nav radio(has to be low speed) and the lockpick adapter harness from coastaletech, and lastly a factory navigation bezel with added trim pieces for the gap top/bottom....
Here are the pics...

The lockpick harness also unlocks nav while in motion, dvd playback in motion and also has an internal hard drive for music and pictures...
I know my bezel isnt great either, but its all I had on short notice and its good enough for me

Looks good. What made you go with the MyGig as opposed to an aftermarket touchscreen ?

Thanks
I like the idea of using a factory head unit, doesnt look as flashy to theives, works great and its pretty straight foward to install(really just need the lockpick harness to adapt it to the ram)
Got a great deal on this one too, so it was cheaper than installing another aftermarket deck too...(otherwise I probably would have)

So wait, the my gig system uses the same wiring harness as the other factory radios.

Well, it works with the adapter harness/lockpick from coastaletech, it wont just plug right in and work though(without the harness)
Just make sure the one you get is a low speed canbus radio and not high speed.

FYI if you try to install a highspeed canbus radio in a lowspeed vehicle it will start then die immediatly...
Kinda scary a radio can kill the truck, but thats what happens...(just unplug it and it will start/run fine again)

Cool,

I pulled my Pioneer screen out of my truck cause it was cutting up and currently have the factory radio in. But this would be a cool mod if I ran accross one. How do you determine if one is a high speed or a low speed model.

I could just sneak the one out of my wifes new Durango... course dont think that would go over too well

Ill see if I can copy/paste the list, but bascially the Avengers are low speed, and the mini vans are highspeed...(theres also a list of PNs so you can tell what it came out of by the PN)

LOL, she might mind if she likes/uses it

Different in the early trucks, but it does come in the new '09+ ram 1500s(laramies, or optioned SLTs)
They just started putting the MyGigs in the '09s, but previously they were in pretty much everything else besides the rams in '07+(as an option)

Factory bezel available?

I don't think your bezel looks bad at all except theres no way i'm competent enough to fab one.. Is there any factory or aftermarket bezels available that will work on an 06 SLT 2500 with factory entry level radio if upgrading to the NAV unit?

There isnt one that will work without modification
You can cut your non-nav bezel up, but then youre left with two 1/4" gaps where the oval sections are(which can still be filled up too)
For me it seemed easier with the Nav bezel to just make the filler strips instead of cutting up my regular bezel, hoping it came out well then tapping everything off and painting it again.

Updating NAV do you need VIN number

Stacked97

I'm still researching this as I'm really interested in this upgrade..

I've read that to upgrade the NAV when upgrades come out you need to provide the vehicles VIN number. As the 06 didn't have an MYGIG option and the MYGIG that i would be installing would be from a Sebring or something, would I be able to update the NAV? Does a NAV update disc need to communicate with the vehicle ECM or something? Why the need for the VIN?

Does the Lockpick adapter take care of this and I can give any VIN # when ordering an update NAV disc?

I have not read of the need to provide the vehicle VIN if ordering a MYGIG software update DISC, only the NAV update disc

THanks,

Ken

You are correct, the lockpick harness takes care of needing a VIN number for the radio to work(and also for the features to be turned on in starscan for the nav? I believe)

As far as I know you can just order the update disc from chrysler or a parts store, heck im sure you can even download them online for free somewhere.

And yes, just make sure the unit you are getting is the low-speed version, high speed will not work in our trucks.

Scroll down for the PNs for the radios and update discs...
