damage to my baby last night!!!
damage to my baby last night!!!
since my truck has the unfortunate rank behind my tractor it gets parked outside... I know I know.... It is usually hooked up to the trailer anyway. So we had some pretty bad hail last night and I now have about 50 dimples in the hood and roof of my baby.. I almost cried
But my sister in law is an estimator at abra and is coming over to look at it this afternoon. Do you guys think it is worth trying to fix the stock hood or just buy another one??? I can buy a brand new one for $250 shipped to my door in primer. I can get her to paint it very cheap but she thinks I can just get them PDR'd. from how I explained them over the phone. I know I should be concerened but the ones on the roof are not as agrivating as the ones on the hood. Since I have a 4x4 I can't see the roof unless I am standing in the bed. And even at that they aren't that bad. But the hood is very bad. There is a few of them that are sunk 1/4" in. That leave about a 2" round dimple. Also For some reason I had a fairly wet drivers floor this morning, It could have been from my feet yesterday when it was raining but it should have dried up over night. What is your opinion???

well with the fuel prices as they are considder this, they put dimples on golf ***** to make them go further...... maybe you will get better mileage with your newly dimpled truck. I feal for ya, I got lucky a few years ago while driving and came into a storm but I had time to get the truck I was driving at the time under an overpass. Good luck with it.
Since you can get a new one pretty cheap, why not keep the damaged one and plan on replacing it sometime in the future?
That way you don't have to worry about any future hail storms. The hood is already trashed so it's ready for more abuse. No fuss no muss.
You've already taken the hit, I'd worry about it later. You could fix it in 5 years, except the paint might look a little new vs. the rest of the truck.
After all, we all do love our trucks but...it's still a truck. People don't question a truck that looks like it's taken some abuse.
They're made to work and take some abuse.

Yeah you're right about having insurance take care of it. They rip us off year after year so why not call on them for once.
But it's also comforting to know that you can fix it whenever you want and that by delaying the fix you also guarentee the new hood won't suffer the same damage during that time.
I know all about the new vehicle "first dent" stress. I hate stressing about every little scratch and mishap that happens to a new vehicle. It's a big investment and there's no way of avoiding it but once enough time passes you get passed it and enjoy your new vehicle all the more. Always takes me about one year to settle down.
I say get the insurance check and wait until hail season is over before replacing it.
Those had to be some big hail stones to dimple that truck hood. I was out checking my oil today and that hood is made of some pretty beefy gauge steel.
You're lucky the windows held up.

We had purchased a F350 a while ago that was shipped to the dealer and had transit damage. A chain had dangled down on the hood from the car above and every bump the chain moved and banged into it. We still bought the truck with the promise that we would get a new hood etc. Well 8 years later the truck was sold. It never did get a new hood.It bugged me for the first couple of months. After a while you won't even see the damage. Drive on.
I couldn't take it looking at dents like that everyday especially the one day a month I drop that payment in the mail
.
Sitting at a red light in town, looked over and there stands this 6 or 7 year picking up rocks and droping them. I wonder whats he doing? Then when he found one that suited him I found out, right off the side of my bed!
Before the light changed he was pelting cars left and right! Long story about the kid but I took it to the dealer to get it touched up and they made a mess out of it the first time they tried and not much better the second time, finialy took it to another shop and got it fixed right
.
I have to remind myself that it's just a truck all the time but when I didn't have it for a few days while they were fixing it and then I got it back...WOW it was good to have it back.....LCH

There is an outfit out there somewhere called something like Pop-a-dent that works them out with a spoon type tool. Saw a couple repaired that looked real good.

You'll have the only one on the block for sure!

I fix hail damage for a living have been for 12 years off and on, it sounds like it can be fixed, by a reputable dent guy that is. You probally can get it fixed and save your deductiable and maby put a few bucks in your pocket. Just dont tell your insurance about it.
And if done by a good dent guy you'll never know it had hail dents on it. Now what town is it you live in.

I live in albertville. The hail we got here was about golf ball sized for about 5 hours long. It started at about 1am and finally quit about 5:30 or 6:00am it probably didn't hail that big all the time but when I got out of bed at 7am it looked like we had an inch of snow on the lawn. I went out and picked up a few of them and the biggest I found I could have played golf with. but the vast majority of them were only about pea sized and a little bigger. I found in the browns catalog I have that I can get a srt-10 like ram air hood for $429.00 and have it painted. I won't let the hood go but the roof might never get fixed. I don't look there and nobody else does either. so screw it I will leave the roof. I have a call into the ins. agent to see if it is even worth claiming it or not. I think my deductable is $500. so I will probably just pay out of pocket and not claim unless there is no deduc. because it was mother nature. I have heard of that before so I don't know for now. Thanks for all the replies and have a good day.
My property is wall to wall pine trees so I get tree pitch on my truck all the time.
I always clean the hood, fenders, etc., but I don't bother with the roof for the same reason as you: Noone looks there.

You should go ahead and see what the insurance company will do. Point out every minor dent in the bed rails, fenders and doors, etc. Then you can just replace the hood if you want & put the rest in your pocket.
not sure how your insurance company works, but i had a tree fall on my hood and roof.the hood was toast, the roof nobody sees any way, but there are dents there, i just don't care, the paint ain't very good there anyway.
i call my insurance guy and he told me that it would affect my insurance, and that it would go up if i made that claim. he also said that it would be considered an accident, even though a tree fell onto my truck. so i just went a head and bought a used hood from some one that replaced their prefectlly good stock hood with an SRT10 hood.
ended up being cheaper then my deductable, and i really did want the SRT10 hood yet.
still have the damaged hood for future uses.
