Cross wind door noise

I have tried the search function, but apparently the tap talk does not search on this forum.

Anyway, we are having some big wind here in Ok and the crosswind on the drivers door is bad. The top of the door will move almost a 1/2 ". I remember way back reading something about door adjustment and door bending. Anybody care to share their fixes I would love to hear.

My '03 does it pretty bad but I have nowhere near that kind of movement. I found out after the fact that there was a TSB for new weatherstrip for the doors on my model year but not too sure about yours.

Just something to look into.

Here in NW Iowa the wind never stops. High winds(50+mph) are comon and the door noise you are speking of can be so loud you literaly can not talk to somone in the passnager seat. You have to yell loudly to have a conversation. I have seen my door move the 1/2" you seen regularly till I moved the door striker in abought 1/8". That took a lot of it away. It did however make it so the rear of the dore is not aligned quite rite. It is in a little bit. My wifes 04 TrailBlazer is the same way.

Same with mine (couldn't even hear the radio in a high wind). Door striker was the only adjustment that worked........buddy took his to a body shop and they said they could bend in the window by hand........they broke and folded the whole thing over.

Adjust the striker, should solve most of the problem. Get some rubber lubricant, that will swell your weatherstrip, you need to do that a couple times a year at minimum, I do mine quarterly and have not had to adjust the striker.

Any names on the weather stripping swelling stuff?

Thanks for the tip on the striker. I'll try that and see what happens with the lubricant on the weather stripping. The door bending thing scares me, but I am at the point I am willing to try almost anything.

I had the same thing and I was coming home on new years, had a 5 hour drive I made it about 30 min and I opened my door braced my knee against my arm rest, rolled the window down, grabbed the top of the door and pulled and wow did it make a huge difference I was very impressed

Ethylene-propylene rubber & elastomers (also called EPDM) are what the weatherstrip is made of. They are not very tolerant or compatible with petroleum based greases and spray lubricants. Petroleum based products will certainly cause them to swell up like you want;however, they can fail by softening up and breaking down over time.

I recommend the use of waterproof /silicone grease; ie plumbers grease for weatherstripping. Silicone grease can be found at your local orange or blue big box store, hardware store or a plumbing supply house. It is also known as faucet grease.

Another simple fix is to crack open one of the rear windows or the rear slider (works best for me).

It's kept me from going nuts during many a long and windy drive!

I did this for a car and it worked... roll down the window of the noisy door and bend the door frame in a little toward the truck. It takes a little M A N, but it'll tighten up the joint.

GM had some stuff called "Silicone Emulsion" that was a treatment for weatherstripping and would swell the rubber. Not sure if it's still around.

Thanks for the replies. Glad I am not alone on this, but it sucks dodge can't put quality around an awesome engine.
I have a 2000 ranger 4x4 with 260k miles. Wrecked on front drivers at least 1 time before I got it. Was and is treated like dirt. Never had to align the wheels and road noise and cross wind not a problem.
By the way I love my mega and will probably do everything I can to keep it going for me. But between the death wobble/ front end issues and wind noise I am about to go nuts.

Bringing in outside air through the vents will cause more wind noise than having it on re- circulate. We need a vacuum pump to put neg pressure in cab and keep the doors sucked in. lol.
