Cooper Discover SST Mud Tires???

Anyone running these? I'm thinking about going to the 35/12.50/20 and at the price of these things I hope they're a decent tire.

I'm running Cooper STT's in 285/70/17. So far, I'm happy with them. I've got about 12K on them and they seem to be holding up well. I should get 50K out of them at least. The are great off road, but I've not had them in snow yet. They do make noise, but not as bad as most aggressive tread tires.

I also have the STT 285s. I think I have around 24k on them, I should see 40k++, I like em but I am undecided if I will buy them again, nothing wrong with them just might try something different. just have to see what is out there when I am ready for a new set. great in the mud and snow. I rotate every 3k which with an MT tire I think it is imperative on these heavy trucks.

I also rotate every 5-6K, with a 5 tire rotation.

Yes, or at least in 20s you can, I didn't look at 17s. Check out coopertire.com.

Mine are D sidewall rating, but have the same load factor rating as the 265 E's. They are also a 3195 weight rated tire.

I ran STT's in 35x12.5x17. Good tread, relatively soft compound though. Looks like a Toyo, but not near the quality. In the first 350miles off road, I had ripped chunks out of the tread. The Toyos would probably have had some cuts on them, but chunks of tread blocks would not have been missing.

The traction of the Coopers was good, and they provided a comfortable ride. They will not withstand the punishment off road that a Toyo will though.

My self I'm not a believer that a D rated tire is as good as an E rate one even if they claim to carry the same weight. IIRC the sidewall on a D tire is not the same nor as strong as the sidewall on an E rated tire. Also if a D rated tire was as good as and E rated tire and would hold up like an E on a 3/4 ton truck they would not say to only use E rated or better tires on our trucks. JMHO.

350 miles??????? Ripped tread off??? i have around 26k on mine they have seen tons of desert, Montana mud, rocks, and i drive them hard off road and they are siped to boot. Plus i have a slide in camper that i put 4k on with those tires not to mention hauling my 6k boat every weekend. what did you roll coal on a case of bud long necks?

The toyos are great tires too, they have the same tread design. I plan to run the toyos next to get a comparison, but everyone i talk to say they are comparable and the toyos cost more too.

i know i have a 2nd gen but im running the STTs and love em. there the best tires i have ever owned. i know of many guys here in ky running these tires on 3/4 and 1 tons. they grip really good and i have barely any need for four wheel drive. and they change the look of the truck completely. first pic is of my truck with courser a/ts and the second is the coopers.

I have the 285's. I didn't like them at first because they seemed like they would wear really fast but now after about 14K they seem to be doing really well. I have had the Toyo's too and IMO I think the SST's are just as good.
My only complaint at this point is the road noise. It can get old at times but it's a fair trade off for better traction because IMO these trucks SUCK offroad with normal tires.

I have 285's on mine also and have had good luck also. Looked at Toyo's and thought I was looking at the same tires with the tread pattern. Both are gooed tires and have not heard anything bad as of yet.

As far as "chunks" coming off the tread I have had nicks but no chunks on mine!

I have had em for the last 50 000 kms. They are almost worn out. I think they are a pretty good tire. Keep up the rotations or towards the end they will ride a bit rough. Im going to run the Dick Cepeck Mud terrains or the Mickey Thompson ATZ s next. Havent decided yet.
