cold weather front on the interstate?
i have the mopar cold weather front and will be taking a road trip on the interstate tomorrow. the high is supposed to be around 10. normally i would have 2-3 flaps closed for this temperature when driving to work. would this be OK for interstate driving or should i open them all up?
Last weekend around here it was sbout 0-10 degrees. I made a trip down to PA to look at a CAT skidder. Left 2 flaps open with no issues. Gauges all stayed in there normal locations and i didn't notice the fan kicking on and off. But when ever i do more stop and go driving my trans temp rises alittle more than i like.
I took a about a 260 mile trip last weekend in mine. It was about 15-20 degrees. I just took mine off just in case. It stayed at temp the whole way. I think you'd be just fine opening it up, at least for the intercooler and the tranny cooler.
If ya leave all the flaps closed does it hurt anyting if your operating temps are at normal levels? ?
I drive about 45min to work and leave them closed when its like 20 or below. Everything seems to be just fine.

. I have been running with the top & bottom flaps closed 20* and below. At 20 degrees Water temperature will sit one needle with below 200*, as usual. I have noticed when temps crowd 30* the needle will sit on 200* (with 2 flaps closed), do not hear the fan turning on and all other gauges were normal. I you have any concerns leave the sides & top open. I like the two flaps closed traveling especially in stop & go traffic, transmission doesn't warm up too much & water temperature doesn't cool as much either. I have had the truck & cold front for over a year now. I open them all up above 40* and take the front off when temperatures stay above 50*. Hope that helps

That is a myth. The fan isn't even connected to the crankshaft for one. The fan is pretty tuff stuff and could easly handle and "offset" from the differental airflow from one flap being open. The centrifugal forces just from spinning is much more than the perpindicular airflow force. JMO

On my truck if the outside temps are above 12 and I plan on a long trip I open 2 flaps as if I don't then the temp guage will not go below 200. Anything above 32 I open all 4 flaps.
