Question Code Error

Need Help! I turned a corner today and put on the throttle, the truck acted as though it was up against a wall and really hesitated to get into 2nd and 3rd gear. I took it right over to the dealer and an error code showed up as P0633, found out that it is skim key not programmed into pcm. They told me they didnt know what the code was, they thought that it was maybe transmission seals going out and that cost $3300.00. I came home and called 5 different dodge dealers, most of them blew me away maybe because I am female, who knows! How do I get this fixed? Is this something that we should be concerned about? We are leaving for our first ever vacation in 9 days and no way do I want to break down somewhere. Truck is no longer under warranty. One dealer said that at around 80-90,000 miles these 2003 Dodge 3500 series and 2500 series are breaking down for one reason or another. Any advice will be appreciated.

Well you might get a lot of different answers on what that code means or what causes it. This is generic definition.

P0633 Generic Immobolizer Key Not Programmed - ECM/PCM

I have had that code for almost 2 years now. Some say downloaders cause this code and maybe they do, but mine showed up before I had any performance mods on the truck. As soon as I saw it, I went to the dealer and said fix it. They hooked up DRBIII and looked. I was told that it is a stored code, not an active code. That it probably meant that at some time something interferred with the chipped key and the computer. They said lots of things could cause this and not to worry. I said I would like it cleared. They said well it is a stored type of code that would need to reset/clear all computer stored data to clear. They recommended not doing that and told me it was better to leave it so that if a problem occured with the key they would have stored data proving a problem had occured before.

Don't know if any of that conversation was accurate or not. The code is still there and it has never had any effect on the way the truck runs as far as I know.

Bottom line is if the truck starts and runs ok, then I would just ignore it. I finally did.

My03, I wouldn't be concerned with that code. Can't understand why dealer didn't clear it! My 06 had that also and they cleared it no problem. Dis-connect your batteries for a few minutes and it will clear all codes.

Disconnecting the batteries will not clear the code. If it is an erroneous code and not a hard code it will clear on it's own after approximately fifty duty cycles of the key.

An erroneous code is caused by a computer glitch. There is not an actual problem. A hard code signifies an actual problem and will not go away even when cleared with a scan tool until the problem is fixed.
