CLearance light, leaks.... water into the cab!!!

whats up with this?

Isnt this going to cause rust in the roof of my truck later on???? i know which light it is thats leaking, and am going to schedule an appointment,

but what about the consequences of all this water draining through the roof... its gotta be causing rust already ... its drips off the sun visor "holder piece" and down onto the floor or onto my lap.... so annoying.

what a bummer and everything was going good

After they replace the lamp, get yourself some clear RTV. Pull the screws on each lamp and squeez some RTV down in the hole, replace the screws and then put some RTV on the head of the screws. This will prevent any water from getting in when they crack later on. You can tell which one is cracked because it will have condensation inside

This seems to be a problem with all roof lights.......have also read about the Chevy and Ford lights leaking as well.........I haven't had the problem "yet" but I believe I will just rtv the crap out of mine before it happens......I live in the great Northwest and we get quite a bit of rain and I don't need it dripping into my lap on the way to work or hauling my RV across country.

ive owned multiple trucks with the clearance lights, i have a 1999 dodge 3500 with them on it and no drips yet.

before that truck i had another dodge before it from 1997 with the lights and no leaks

and with that truck i still had my old 6.9 ford... i had that truck for 14 years? to long? forget, anyways no leaks there either

this truck is only...10 months old since assembly?? i guess ill be siliconing the heck out of it and doing the rest :/

I personally like the clearance lights, they give the truck a nice look atliest to me, but im just a bit mad about the whole leaking problem.

oh yea, and it better be of no charge, not my fault they put in cheap plastic?

I have replaced and siliconed more of these things than I care to mention. I have to do another one when I get a warm day. No water in the cab yet, just condensation. I think mine just can't handle the high pressure touchless car wash. I didn't see anything in the owners manual stating not to use the touchless car wash if you have cab marker lights. I hope DC is listening, will come up with a redesign and replace these things.

What is strange about this problem is that my dad owned chevies and ford from 71 until now (8 trucks) and has never had a clearance light leak. Seems like the more technologically advance we get, the more small problems we have.

This is not bashing dodge, Just making a point that for $40 grand, these type of problems should not happen.

i agree completely, they couldnt pay an extra 20 cents for each cab marker light to make them heavy duty?

An idea...

Replace them with clear lenses and amber LEDs with lots of silicone and forget about them for a long time, till they get hazy from sun damage.
