Chip Questions.....please help

I am wanting to purchase a chip for my truck. Here are my questions. I have taken the muffler off and have a K&N air filter. I was thinking about getting an intake but I would rather have a chip. I am on about a $500 budget. Will I be ok just putting the chip on or will I need to make any other modifications? Also for $500 will I be able to get one that I can just program back to factor settings for when I have to take it to the dealerships? Please give me some suggestions. Also I do not have any guages as of right now.

Do not add power without at least an EGT gage. With your new gage(s), you can add a Quadzilla, Edge, Workhorse, etc. fueling box that can be removed before taking to the dealer. This will you put you in the $500 range.

Gauges?

EGT gauge is around $100, engine is around $6000. Sounds like the gauge is cheap insurance.

I know.....I am just not good with installing those kinds of things. I would have to by the a-arm pillar mounts, then the guages, then install them somehow. What is EGT?

Sorry, I didn't realize you were not FBC....Fully Buzzword Compliant.

EGT=Exhaust Gas Temperature. If this temperature gets too high you can melt pistons and/or turbos. This temperature will increase with the added fuel from a chip, box, injectors, etc.

Please do yourself a big favor. If that filter is of the reusable cloth kind only use it on a drag strip. Get a oversized normal big truck air filter to use on your existing K&N. They will clean your air much better than the K&N and being oversized will allow the same airflow for your normal everyday driving. I'm telling you this because I've been down that road and they will allow larger dirt partials in your engine. The first thing it does is eat your turbo up. Mine cost me $2700 to replace on my FORD at the time on a 10 month old truck in 2005.

I've got the diablosport downloader and love it. I just towed with mods for the first time this past weekend and its like having a new truck. EGT's never went over 1000 (I took it fairly easy) and I only had to downshift out of OD twice around mamoth cave in Kentucky. Couple of pretty steep grades in there. I tow around 18k, just to give you an idea of where I stand. You'll love the Diablosport predator, and you cant beat the price.
