check engine

well my check engine light came on yesterdy so I stopped at the dealership and they told me that I have to wait until friday for when they have an opening. my question is, can I get a code to pull up and some one on here just tell me what the problem is?

If you have a code reader that plugs into the computer port you can get a code and there are many people here that have the list that can assist you

i know theres a key on/off thing i think its on/off 3 times and the codes appear in the odometer window. you should be able to do a search and find something on it. i uses my bullydog downloader to get codes . good luck

I tried turning the key 3 times and all I got was a line of dashes and no codes.....any help?

I think the dashes means no codes.... I tried the same thing on my 07 5.9

I seem to remember reading somewhere on here that the key trick to view codes does not work on 06 and newer trucks.

key trick works ok on my 06. i had the usual p0514 last week due to a cold snap in the uk, came & went again same day.

You turn the key to on then back just one click not all the way back do it three times leaving it in on position last time will read any stored codes then will say done after last one.
