cheap key

My key has gotten where it will hang up & makes my truck hard to crank. I went to my dealer & the key is $150 plus $60 to program it to my truck. I've come up with a cheap fix. Get a new key cut for your truck using the old one as a pattern. Make sure it will crank the truck. The truck will go dead if you put it in gear unless you hold the factory key on the new key when you put it in gear. Using a heat gun the factory key will come apart.The metal part from the electronics. Using a grinder shape the new key ( the part that you would hold between your fingers to crank the truck) to the shape of the factory key. Insert the new key into the wide plastic piece & glue it in place. You've saved about $200.

new keys can be had several places that cst waaaaay less than the dealer. If you have two programed keys you can program you own new keys with ease. since I had to get one made at the dealer when I bought my truck with only one key I have bought several others and programed them so I will never have to go to the ******* for a key agian.

I don't have a picture but if you take the key apart its really a simple fix. Mine works like new.

Key Programming is covered in your owner's manual. You must have two working keys to do it though. Otherwise, you have to go to the dealer.
