cb antenna location?
cb antenna location?
I have one of Big Bobs cb mounts on the way and need to find a good location to mount the antenna. I have thought about the wilson 1000 mag mount but with it i dont think it would fit in my garage. Was wondering how everyone else had there antenna mounted? I have a spare wilson 5000 that i just took off my big truck at work but dont know where to mount it.
The absolute BEST spot would be dead center on the roof... but then you won't fit in any garage. I have my 2' Firestik mounted to the front of the bed, just behind the cab. It works OK, but I get a lot of reflectivity and directionality. The bed isn't wide enough for a dual-plane antenna to work well, but it would help a bit with the directional signal. I may do that in the future. It works good enough for me though. To answer your question, probably the BEST place for you will probably be the side of the hood.
I used the Firestik pocket mounts and put twins on it. I cut down 3'ers to about 2'6-8", dont recall which, just above the cab about 2". I havent had any problems with an unmodified Cobra29.
I use the firestick extended stake pocket mount and a 6 foot wilson silverload. The extended mount fits with a bed cap installed. SWRs and range are good but not at the same level of a Wilson 1000/5000 mag mount in the center of the roof.
Ok guys, I can take the abuse. I used a Midland Window Mount, used window mount on last three trucks. SWR readings are pretty good considering. Doesn't blow any drawers off, but is sufficient for my needs on the highway. Very easy to cable inside Cab.

I have dual 4' firestiks on the hood lip mount made for older Ram trucks from Firestik, on quick disconnects so they can be removed for parking garages and when not on the road.
Here is a link to the single hood setup, I am running duals with Fire-ring dual cables. Click on Mounts & Accessories at the top of the page, then on Dodge Hood mount.

It is directional, but it is to the front and back so that works on the interstates, and being 4' it clears the cab so you do get good distance with them also.
Hope this helps.

Hi guys,
I'm going to mount two WiFi antennas using homemade stake pocket mounts.
I have a 2005 Ram 2500 Quad Cab. How did you run your wires from outside into the truck? I don't want to drill holes for antenna cables if I don't have to. I noticed that on the back of the cab there appears to be a couple of black grills. I assume they are vents? I thought about maybe trying to snake the wires through these.
I would really like to hear how you routed your wires. Thanks!
