Can the security Key feature be shut off?

I only received 2 keys when buying my used truck. I ordered 3 blank keys from e-bay and got them cut today. I then followed the procedure of inserting the 2 good keys and then waiting for a LED Light on the dash to appear. It never happened. I tried multiple times. Finally, I was frustrated and tried one of the new keys and it started the truck and ran for at least 30 seconds until I shut it off. I was under the impression that a key that the truck did not recognize would only run for about 3 seconds. Could the previous owner have deactivated this feature. Sorry if this is in the owner's manual, but I had to order one, since it was missing from the truck when I bought it. Thanks for replies.

Maybe the programming was successful after all.

Just returned from the dealer(Ontario Dodge, California) to get my first remote programmed and asked them about the key issue. After looking at my tow factory keys, they told me that they are not security keys and that that is/was an option that my truck does not have. Problem solved as long as the dealer is telling the truth. I was happy though, they programmed the remote for free in about ten minutes. Another dealer told me it would take an hour, and I am pretty sure that they would charge me for it.

Both of mine are black, so they are non-security keys. Thanks for the info!

As far as I know, all the sentry(sp?) keys are gray. You still have the alarm with the black keys but I dont think you have the sentry system that prevents someone breaking the ignition and stealing the truck. It should stall about 10-20 seconds after you start it with the wrong key. If you really want to know, take your key to any hardware store and have them cut a key for a buck. If the truck starts and you can drive away, you dont have the sentry system.

The security keys for my '06 are black. Did the hardware store key for a wallet key and it won't let the truck run after 3 seconds.

06 Keys are black but only because they also have the remote incorporated into it. All other sentry keys are grey.
