Cab smell? oil leak? cosmoline?
Cab smell? oil leak? cosmoline?
When my truck was new...it had the cab smell and also had a substance I thought was oil dripping from the bellhousing underneath. I had it at the dealer and pointed the "oil leak" out. They said it was "cosmoline" that is used to protect new metal. I really thought I had an oil leak but it DID go away .... or "burn off". I am wondering if this was what the cab smell was. I did the vent cover thing to stop the cab smell so I'm not sure if that was it but it would make sense.
Anybody else have this "oil leak" that went away? I remember seeing others say that their new truck had this same oil leak in the same location.

Mine went away after about 1,500 miles. I chalked it up to "something" burning off the new engine. Hopefully by doing away with the blow-by bottle and re-routing the breather hose to the bottom of the engine, DC has cured most of the cab smell problem. I just hope this hose doesn't eventually start dripping/blowing oil everywhere.

I have the same thing. It was all over the bottom of my engine, especially after I made my first run(140 miles). After out first rain.....in Seattle, the oil is gone from the bottom of the engine and the smell is almost gone.....really just a lingering now.
