Cab Lights with keyless entry

Has anyone wired the cab light to come on when you unlock the truck with the keyless entry? I know the third brake light and the bed light stay on until you open the doors. I like to wire the cab lights to do the same thing.

Mine does it but my alarm remote is what locks and unlocks the car.

....

I think you have the dash switch in the wrong position as my lights inside come on as does the bed light and stay on for about 30 seconds...roll your dashlight switch down a notch...just a thought

Are you talking about the Interior lights or the actual CAB lights on top of the truck? My interior lights come on when the button is pushed but I can see how the exterior CAB lights coming on would be nice. Allow you to SEE where the truck is if you didn't see the 3rd brake light on.

Nuttymopar,
Yes I'm talking about the exterior cab lights.

I would think that if you tie into the wires to the brake light that every time you hit the brakes, the cab lights would come on. I'm sure it could be wired the proper way but that is when the experts speak up around here.

It would be nice though to see the outside cab lights turn on to show you the way to the truck.

Yes your right, it would nice to see your truck in the parking lot, because thats the only thing I can see is the top of my truck. I just need to find a way to wire it correctly.
I hope from expert chime in.

I think the bed lights are hooked into a time delay box some where, if I find this box all I would have to do is spice a wire from the exterior cab lights and connect to the bed lights or plug into the box. Sound easy, you would think!

Rocky, do you have the OEM keyless or an aftermarket system? The cab lights are obviously wired to the parking lights, would it be OK if the cab light and parking lights lit up with the remote? Let me know and I'll try to help.

I have a OEM keyless. Yes, it would be OK if both lights come on at the same time. I was thinking that if the dome light come on when you unlock the truck could I tap into the dome light and jump it to the cab lights?

If it was aftermarket it would be easy. The difficult part is the OEM keyless plugs into the truck so there aren't any wires to easily connect to. I'll look at mine and see if i can figure something out for you.

I would like to have the outer most cab light blink along with the blinker. If you could figure out a way to hook it up to the side marker that flashes with the remote it seem like it would work.

OK get to work, then email me the instructions

Yeah, I'll set you up up with a great deal on aftermarket! The problem is getting at the output from the keyless and connecting them to the clearance lights as well. The wire that does the corner lights and clearance lights is right in the harness to the right of the ebrake, the OEM keyless must be sending power to the turn signals instead of the corner lights. But I don't see any way of getting at the output to change it to the corner lights.

This should work.
Get 2 general purpose diode's from radio shack.

Diodes only allow current flow 1 direction (anode to cathode)
They should be marked.

cut current ext cab light wire and connect anode of diode 1 to the battery side.
connect interior light wire to anode of diode 2.

tie both cathodes together and connect them to the ext cab lights.

Diode 1 will prevent int. light from trying to power rest of ext. lights
Diode 2 will prevent ext. lights from turning int. lights on.
