A/C Compressor Gone - Two weeks out of Warranty!! AGH!

So I'm pulling my camper down the road today minding my own business. The truck is running great as it always does, it's freezing cold in the cab and it's 99 degrees outside. No issues. Enjoying the ride. BOOM! I hear a pop, and then the A/C is dead. I'm thinking this isn't good so I get to the side of the road. Everything is fine except for the A/C. .....

I go to a dealer, they check it out and tell me the compressor is bad and it's going to be about 900 bucks to fix it. I say wait a minute, I only have 22 thousand miles on the truck. They say that your warranty expired 3 yrs after the date of purchase, which was Aug 20, 2007. (I forgot about the time on the warranty). I say well it's literally been 14 days since the warranty expires, and this is the absolute first problem I have EVER had with my truck, can you fix it? They say no, the warranty is expired, their hands are tied.

I'm frustrated. 22k on a truck and the compressor is gone already. So anyway, I put a case in with Chrysler and I will find out Tuesday if they will cover it. I sure hope so because if not, I'm not gonna be happy. I've had a 99, a 2004 and now a 2007 and this is the first problem I've ever had.

I also told them I'm the owner of DTR and have been a loyal customer for 11 years, including steering MANY people to buy dodge instead of Ford or Chevy. I hope that will have some weight. Wish me luck.

Any advice guys? Been through this before with them? What was the result?

Mine is a 2007 3500 dually with 6.7L, no mods.

I would try another dealer. Call around first. I had a great dealer back in Beaufort, they worked with me on stuff.

I'd also see if the ram guys that were here for a little love. If no one wants to play, we can switch to a Ford forum. I hear that new 6.7 is something else.

You can also try contacting Dodge at the address in your owners manual... they will usually pick up at least the cost of the part.

LOL - I'll give it a chance and see what the warranty people will do about it. I'll post the results on Tuesday when they call me back.

A good dealer would "good will" it. Ive been there before. Many dealers will warranty stuff just out of warranty, to build up good relationships with customers or future customers.
The chevy dealer in my area Good-Will'd my dash cluster in my duramax.
it was 8k out of warranty and was going to cost me about a 1000$.
Ill go back to them, since they took care of me, (and do good work).

That's what I'm working on right now and I should hear from Chrysler on Tuesday or Wed. The dealer gave me their number and held it open, and did not charge me for looking at the truck for an hour. Given that it's only 2 weeks out and only 22k miles on the truck, I'm hoping it'll be an easy case for them to approve.

If it turns out you have to pay, be sure to check out the coil in the clutch before you replace the whole compressor with an ohm meter, 99 percent of the time that is the only problem with a compressor, its an easy fix and dont even need to remove the compressor, not sold by chrysler but I can tell you where to get one for about 50.00 dollars, I just did one for my neighbors 2006.

I appreciate that. I'm pretty confident it'll be covered under warranty. If not, I will be getting in touch with you.

I smell a hack job here, identity theft run rampant. Everyone knows the owner of one of the greatest websites in the northern hemisphere probably buys a new Ram every few months or so, whenever the new CTD smell wears off. Out of warrantee, right...
Back to my morning brew. . .
