That does not sound like a bad truck. I'd blue book it, see what that said, then offer 5k less, minus anything that is wrong with it. He is your buddy, right? If not, I'd offer him 10K

Then the question would be, how much do you want to pay for it? Go ask the bank what kind of loan they's give you, and what the payments would be... see what works for you. If you're buddies, you don't want to take advantage of him, but you don't want to screw your self. What does he owe? I'd say offer 17-18, and go from there... But I ain't there, and it ain't my $$$$.

Don't go near it.
A true friend will understand.

i too would buy it for 18-19K.. if you decide you don't like it, or need the cash later and want to sell, make some money and split it with your buddy!

You said he needs the $10k to give to his exwife or she gets the truck? If so, give him what he owes, $18k, then the two of you can work something out. If it is worth it, you can resell it or let him buy it back from you later.

I agree with "TOTO", a real friend would/will understand. This type of situation can ruin a friendship. I have been there with a Harley Davidson, wouldn't recommend doing it. Do everything and anything BUT DON'T PURCHASE THE TRUCK, to help him out. You can pass the information to as many people or publications as you can, that in it's self would be a great help to him. I understand your looking for a truck, keep an eye out for ANOTHER good deal!

Am I confused?

If he owes $18K and needs $10K to give to his X, wouldn't he need to sell the truck for $28K

It is a touchy situation, I say help the friend out if you can by buying the truck and giving him first option if you sell it within the next year.

Good luck and think it through. . . .
