Nah, your Mode Door is what is giving you issues. A Blend Door 'blends' warmed and ambient air to give you different temperatures. The Mode Door tells what mode to go in; dash, defrost, floor or combination. The Recirc Door will either give you fresh air, recirculate the air in the cab, or in my case, sit on a bench in the garage and stare at you every time you walk by. Good Luck.

I've got the same problem with my '04.

Cold feet in the winter and the nightmare of taking the dash apart.

Wasn't there a list of part numbers and a photo series that someone posted about this issue? I've been trying to get interested enough in the project to actually do something. Especially now that the front end and stereo are all dialed in, Dynatrac is done and before I tackle the tranny. Sigh.

If I understand correctly, the left most of the 4 doors is the one that directs air to the floor.

blend door issues

hello,

i get nothing out of the vents on the right side of my dash, not sure about the right side of the floor, the left side dash and floor work great. am i to understand there may be a TSB addressing this issue? i am driving an '05 and while i think about it my AC does not cool just normal temp.

thanks,

david

It will give you a good idea of what to do.

i have to say guys, pulling the dash isn't near as bad as it sounds. i pulled the dash on my 2007. it took 5 hours start to finish, including the little mod i did. i had trouble with the amount of air blowing from the front vents. the rear vents on the mega cab allow to much air to the back robbing it from the front. there is a fix, but dodge wouldn't warranty it because it was working as it was designed to..lol. anyway, it really isn't a hard job. and when i was finished, i knew it was put back together properly and i saved anywhere from $500-$800 for the job. the dealers charge big time for pulling the dash.

Hello,

I had cold air with minimal flow at the passenger footwell. It was the recirculation door that failed. The new part is the one with the new housing design. This door can be removed out of the fan hole but the housing requires the dash to be moved. Dealer mechanic said he had personally done about 30 replacements. The dash can be dropped on an auto in 25 to 30 minutes he says. Said the 4 bolts at the column then the 2 at either side and then 1 at the firewall. The housing can then be changed out and it all put back together. We will see tomorrow how long it takes me.

I just did the mode door on my 03,it took longer than 5-6 hrs but wasn't that bad of a job .Turned out the $ 5.00 connector in the air box stripped and caused the actuator not to be able to turn the door .It's a good time to change the coolant and hoses to so that was part of my extra time .

MINE HAS BEEN OUT FOR OVER A YEAR (MOD DOOR OR ACCUTATOR) i just live with it for now. soon i will attempt the job. at first it would only blow out the vents, but if i screw with the fan(switch from hi to low sevral times), it will blow out the floor, instead of in your face...sometimes it has a mind of its own....

Hello,

I took the easy way out and removed the new door, adapter and actuator out of the new housing and installed it in the existing housing. Just required glove box door removal and fan removal. 40 minutes including putting away the tools. I did remove some minor injection marks on the door where clearances were tight at the housing and put lithium grease on the adapter where it turns in the housing. Door moved very smooth when done. Maybe the new actuator has less torque? We all take chances. Hope I made the right decision for a few years.

i`m having the same problem but i cant get the dash out to fix it, i have undone every bolt and screw i can find but still can not move the metal tube support running from side to side, i can unhook the passangers side and pull it out about an inch but no more, is there a secret to moving it out as for as it shows in the previously posted pictures?

Once you drop the steering wheel with the 4 nuts there is 2 bolts behind the front 2 nuts get those out and the six bolts on the perimeter and dash should move pretty easy.
