Could this be possible?

I trust the dealer, they've been pretty good over the years. I don't think they'd try to rip me off.

The truck is just over 7 years old so I haven't driven it that much.

I don't work on the truck myself.

Could this be from low mileage? It's never been garaged, and in New England.

Are you running a mail delivery route?

I think it varies greatly by each individual and truck and how much stop and go traffic you are in vs. flat out highway.

I replaced mine at 125K just because I was sure they needed it at that point. Well, they didn't. They had over 50 percent life left in them, but since I was there, I went ahead and replaced the pads. Rotors looked like new.

Our trucks have excellent brakes!

56K sounds kinda soon to me.

Are you the original owner?

I replaced the pads on the front at 108k miles and there was still about 1/8" left. The rotors were only slightly worn. To have worn yours out with so few miles you would have had to do a lot of braking or resting your foot on the brake pedal.

 

I bought my '05 with less than 54K miles from a dealership in North PA. It's a PA truck. The dealer had to replace four rotors and pads for me before completing the deal.

 

I'd almost say your calipers are dragging to have worn the parts out that soon. Do your front wheels have large amounts of brake dust on them? If so I'd say that's your problem.

I finally broke down and replaced the front and rear pads at 225k and they still had a little life left in them. Now, with almost 300k, I feel the rotors warping. Felt of them the other day and they might have had an 1/8" or so of material gone from them.....you know, by feeling the "lip" on the outside egde of the disk.

56k just seems WAYYY to soon for rotors and pads to go south.

 

Both sides, front and rear, were worn out evenly. Looked like to me the PO used brake pedal more than go-pedal.
Now I have 10K miles on it and it's fine.

 

i just replaced my fronts for the second time at 215,000 still original
rotors.rears are factory still half life left.and i do tow a lot.

 

Replaced mine at 50000 miles,they never wore out they rusted out.

 

i looked at mine this morning. they were all rust and pitted pretty bad. The dealer told me they don't turn rotors anymore, and these needed to be turned no doubt, but I had them replaced anyway. they were still very beefy but I can understand why the dealer didn't want to put new pads on them in that condition. next time I'll have to bring it somewhere else. I'm the original owner and have only put 56k on the truck in the last 7.5 years, so I think that's why they're so rusty. It hasn't seen a lot of use and has been outside in the Boston area all this time. Very humod on the summer and the winters are pretty bad. Parts of them were actually flaking off.
They work very good now though, and next time I'll bring them somewhere where they turn them.

just did my 2005 with 54000 on it.Rear rotors totally shot almost rotting.Fronts were still good pads were shot though, with winter coming put new everything front and rear rotors pads etc.SALT kills the rear rotors not much you can do.

 

I repalced my front pads only at about 60,000. I did alot of towing during that time period. I repalced them with off the shelf pads and so far so good. Now my wife onthe other hand has been through a set of pads and rotors on her Honda Accord in 50,000 miles but she accelerates right up to the red light and hammers the brakes ALL THE TIME.

 

If you aren't driving it often, do you feel like the brakes are "sticky" or "grabby" when you go drive it after a few weeks? Maybe the extra rust from not keeping the rotors polished chewed them up a bit faster?

I replaced my front pads at 75k. the rotors were in good shape but the pads were almost completely worn out.
