brake control mounting

Where is the best place to mount the trailer brake control on a 2007? Quick look doesn't look like a lot of options, just wanted to see if any of you had a good idea.

I install them all the time right over the gas pedal. Either on the bottom of the dash level with the ground or on a 45* angle in front of your leg. Theyres not too many options. One time I cut the dash out below the radio and recesed it in to the dash. It looked factory but it took many hours to do.

In line with gas pedal, just under the dash.

I put mine in the hole below the radio in the dash and ran the wires threw the small hole in the back that us used to hold the rubber mat in. I cut the top off of my controler and made a new one that matched the slope on the top of the hole. It works perfect and looks factory almost. I did it on my 96 also. Makes it a lot easyer to reach in an emergancy stop were you may need to hit the slider manualy. Also i dont like to hit my shin, or knee on the brake controler when I get in. It takes a little work but it is realy worth it. I dont want to sound like one of those people that will not modify there truck in any way becouse I have done a lot of mods to my other trucks but if I have the choice between cutting a $100 brake controller or putting holes in the dash of a $42,000 truck I will cut the controller. this is how i did it in my 96, I will get pics of my 08 tomarow.

Lots of threads about this already, but here is where i put mine:

Obviously this won't work if you've got an automatic. Might want to let us know what your truck configuration is to better advise you.

I agree, this is where I put mine as well, it looks great and is easy to reach, I just mounted mine so that it faces out not up.

I would have put it there in my 08 but like you said you cant do it with an auto becouse thats were the cup holder folds up into. I realy like that spot though.

With my 08 I put it up near the ignition switch and hated it. I ended up removing it and putting it straight under my steering wheel and it is so much better. I have bumped it only a couple of times and I can see it through the steering wheel perfect. Much better

Yeah, I hate to show this photo 'cause you can see the two extra sets of holes that didn't work The problem was that I'm all the time getting in the truck with my billfold in my right rear pants pocket and when I'd try to get at it my right knee would hit the brake control .... so I moved it down ..... twice Oh, the CB is mounted using the very FIRST set of holes that were for the brake control but it you couldn't see it there and it was too hard to adjust

I put mine to the right of the emergency brake pedal. I wish i had put it in the cubby like the above post... its more out of the way. I have an auto with the manual T-case, it has the same floor console setup as the M6

I think I will try the location like BroncoHound, my 07 as it has the recesed area about 4" deep in front of the floor mounted cup holder/ash tray/transfer case engage. Went with the P3 prodigy control since it seemed like the most compact unit and rated high.

here is how I did it in my 08 like my 96. I had to cut the top off of my controller and make it match the slope in the top of the cubby.

I have a Draw-Tite controller that I also mounted in the cubby under the radio. Out of the way and easy to reach. small hole in back easily drilled - just well planned and carefully. I decided on that spot first and measured it. Then went several places shopping for controllers with a keychain tape measure and found one to fit. It just sits on the rubber mat and is wedged tightly in place with a piece of paper that came withit folded a few times. Been in since the first week I bought the truck and been flawless ever since.

In my '06 I put one in the ash tray. Had the same model shown above in mj007's pic. I put a 4way trailer connector in the bottom of the ash tray and then the male end on the controler. Worked sweet, fit snuggly in the ash tray and wasn't in the way. When I wanted to remove it, I could just pull it out and unplug it from the ash tray and the door would close normally.

In my '07 the center console is different and I had no choice but to mount it directly in line with the accelorator pedal in front of my right knee. I rarely bump into it there. Mounted any further to the left like below the wheel or in front of the e-brake pedal and I know I'd hit it getting in and out of the truck.

Thats how I did it but made the controller I had ( and realy liked ) work. Can go back stock and no one would ever know. Not going to try to trick any one just nice not to have lots of holes in every thing. Not like one large and four small holes in the bed would not be a give away. Plus I realy like were it is mounted and after doing it in my 96 I would have a hard time putting it any were else.
