Block heater

I picked up my truck off the lot, and it did not come with the block heater option. Anyone know what's the best way to get a block heater?

Thanks

I was told by my ******* that all the 3rd gens have the heater in the block, but you didn't buy the cord. That was case with my truck. I got the factory cord for $30 and just plugged it in and routed it to the front. I've seen some other discussion threads about cheaper ways to get a cord that will work. You might try searching sites or maybe someone else can chime in.

So if it says "Engine Block Heater - $10" on the window sticker...is the cord separate?

I believe the $10 is the factory charge for the cord.

Cummins can get you the cord cheaper than the dealer.

The engine heater comes stock in all CTD's. Its the cord you have to order when ordering your new truck. $10 bucks when you order, $30 bucks if you buy it from the dealer. If you go to a Cummins shop you can get it for about $15 bucks.

Noticed you're from Oregon...I bet the cord is on the truck...Open the front hood and look to the left of the radiator area...the plug is probably hidden between the radiator and the headlight assembly...

Try this on for size. When I bought my truck the service department at the *********** said the heater would be $69 and the cord was $39. Then they were going to charge me $79 to install it. They also didn't have it in stock and I would have to order it and pay half up front! I stopped in at the Cummins dealer here in town and the old guy looks under the hood and says the heater element is already in there. He goes into the shop, comes out and gives me the cord! YES GIVES ME THE CORD!

Now was the *********** going to rip me off or were the mistaken? You decide.

I went in for MY heater having found out that the heaters were in the truck between the time I made the appt and taking it in. When I picked up the truck the service manager confirmed, yes it's there, but the cords are on back order. No Cummins dealer in site and cold temps coming I waited for DC to get the cord. When I took it in I got a bill for TWO parts! I asked and I was told one was the cord the other the HEATER! I said to the same SM, you said Last WeeK it was in there, NOW you want to charge me for it? Just then the Mechanic that worked on the truck walked in. " No sir I DID have to install it. I paid the bill, but when they called to ask how the service went and to rate it 1-5, I gave them a ZERO for lying to me. About 15 minutes later I got a call from the Manger of the Dealership. I told him what happened. he said he'd look into it.
A little while later I got another call. This is what I found out. A heater and cord were checked out of the Parts Dept., the heater was not returned. so it got billed to you and we are going to credit your card for the price of the heater. I said " well that great, BUT that's not what happen and I hope you're not doing this just to appease me. I will take the money, but your mechanic said he had to install the heater that I was told the week before was in there. He ASSURED me his story was true.

Now was the *********** going to rip me off or were they mistaken? You decide.

I went to my dealer for the cord and including tax they wanted $42.00. I just played it off that I was "just checking" but they did print out the part number for me. I took it to the local Freightliner store with the big Cummins C on the building. They didn't know what I was talking about. They even tried to look up the part with the Dodge part number to no avail. Could one of y'all please post the Cummins Part # for the heater cord.
