Blinking trailer lights to say thank you!

In my old truck I wired in a normally closed momentary switch to interupt the trailer lights to say thank you when a driver let me change lanes.

The switch would only interrupt the running lights, not the head lights. In my new truck I wanted to only interrupt the trailer running lights if possible.

Just wondering if anyone knew where I can tap into the trailer lights under the hood?

Thanks

i think the wiring is similar to the 07 and if it is you should build a isolator for the trailer plug, it will be very easy to add a switch to do what you want. if you pull a goos-neck or a 5th wheel at the same time consider adding a plug in the bed near the tail gate. up about a foot on the drivers side is a place to mount it that is completely protected. i buy my plug's and harness from etrailor.com and build my own isolator. i know there are isolators already made up and etrailor may have them. if you decide to build your own pm me with your email address and i will send pix and schematic

Maybe just find the ground for the lights and put a switch in the middle of it.

@carl48 - inatalling an isolator is a good idea. You should contact the admin here and see if that diagram and pic could be put into the wiki section so everyone could take advantage of that information without you having to e-mail pics and instructions.

thanks CD i will try it. if you want to do it like your old one the easiest place to connect to the trailer run lights is bu the spare tire the trailer run lights is a brown 14 gage wire. run a pair of 12 gage wires from your switch to this point and break the wire
