Black Soot Around tail pipe

I am new to diesel trucks and just need some advice. I have a 2006 5.9 CTD...has 82k miles now. I just assumed black soot around tail pipe was normal when you drive a lot. There is no noticeable black smoke pouring out at all...I made sure to test all that out b/f I bought. But I took it to a garage for a brake issue and they seemed to be alarmed that there was black soot on the tail pipe and truck body immediately behind tail pipe...said that I might have a turbo going bad. But there is no noticeable power problem. Is this something I should be concerned about or try to fix. I know the 6.7 are supposed to be more exhaust friendly, and just expectd the 5.9 to be more "dirty". Is the turbo covered in the CTD 5 yr/100k waranty if it is going bad? Appreciate any advice.

So you got a dirty butt, shower and wipe more often.

I leave mine on as long as possible, pretty sure it's a mating display and I hope to find a litter of Cummins in the driveway someday soon.

The chrome on my bumper is getting small pitted/stained spots where the soot builds up. I'm in the desert, so I don't think it's rust. I usually wash the sooted paint with normal car wash soap. I'll try the simple green on the bumper.

Ive used products like neverdull or brasso on the chrome bumper to get the soot off. works very well and leaves a "residual" layer like wax to help combat the soot returning as quickly.

The neverdull is an cotton-wad like chrome and metal polish we used to use ALOT in the Marine Corps! rub it on and buff out with a terry cloth.

I put a turn down extension on my tail pipe so I do not get the soot build up on my paint and chrome.

It's not a mating display, it's assertion of dominance!

Did they offer to give you a "deal" on a new turbo too? Like free titanium muffler bearings or something?
Find a new mechanic.

Clean the bumper with an SOS kitchen scrubbing pad. Just keep it wet and use a light touch. Wash it off and use a little chrome polish on the whole bumper. It works. Works great on exhaust tip also.
