Best Tool Box for 06 shortbed
UWS makes a chest style that is below the rails and is specifically for the short bed. I don't remember the model number but you can find it on their website. I think it is called the wedge. It fits perfect.

Never had enough weight in it to worry about it...
Most I have in there are 4-6 ratcheting straps, hitch, spare water jug, and gallon of oil...
Dont load it down and you shouldnt have to worry about it...
I ordered a Deflecta-Shield Challenger narrow width low profile from autoanything a couple of days ago. Only takes up 9" of bed, just right for a few hand tools and parts that I need to carry around but don't need bouncing around the cab.
Well it does exist and the manual says you should use it. The "L" bracket goes into the corners of the bed up front by the cab. It is supposed to keep the sheet metal from crimping from tightening the j bolts. I was also told it will keep the bulk head of the bed from cracking away from the sides. I believe it was around $60.00. Pretty pricey. I used to have a 2000 f350 super duty dually ( V 10 and a terrific truck. I would have loved the Cummins in it) and the bed was much more solid than my 06 mega. I had a loaded weatherguard on it for 5 years with no problems. I was hoping someone had used the tool box kit and could let me know if it made any difference. I do drive daily on washboard roads.

I've always made angle iron bed rails for my trucks to distribute the weight across more of the bed. If your toolbox is going to be really loaded down (and my R.K. is) you can add legs that go from the rails to the bed floor in the front corners of the bed to help even more. Any decent welder can build this stuff pretty easily. Almost every truck you see in these parts do it this way.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
