what is the split for using camper shells for different year vehicles? did the bed sizes change?

 

I know for a fact a shell of pre 2003 trucks will not fit the 2003 and newer.
My friend has the one off his 98 on his 2007, it can be clamped on but you can tell it's not the right fit.

 

When I was just searching for mine, I think the cutoff was 02 and up.
Something about the curve at the front and the taper at the rear

 

I took the cap off my 98 and put it on my 03 but the front of the cap does not match up properly with the back of the cab. Other than that it fit the bed OK...

 

I swapped the ARE cap from my 2004.5 QC SB to my 2007.5 MC. Perfect fit.

 

02 was the first year of the new body style for the half tons, 3/4 and 1 tons changed in 03.

 

bringing this back up, and just to make sure. I Found a shell from an 02 1500, what body style is that the 3rd gen or 2nd?

 

Just like Fisherguy said, the 2002 1500 is a 3rd gen body style.

On a side note, a cap for a 2006-2008 1500 will not fit the 2500/3500 quite right. You would have to buy the tailgate spoiler that came standard on the 06-08 1500's to make it work.

The shell on my 2000 would not fit on my 2004.
