Bad Smell

I've noticed a strong stench when idling for a period of time. KInda smells like body odor or onions???..........no kidding, and it is not me!! Wondering if it's the cat or low sulfur diesel or what?? Any ideas??

Cut the cat out and see if that helps. If not at least you got rid of it!

Just be thankfull yours doesn't smell like a urinal cake!

I got mine from the dealer smelling like ten tons of air freshener. Eventual the smell they were trying to cover mixed with it and now smells like the mens room. I think the farmer that had my truck first was a hog farmer. Doesn't bother me though being raised around hog farms and working at them several times.

I'd bet on the Cat. My buddy has a D-max and his exhaust smells wierd, real wierd. They both burn the same fuel, the only difference is he has a Cat. I have an early 2004 so mine never came with one, and I think his is an 2005.

I've also noticed this sitting at stop lights with both SD's and D-max's. The exhaust out of my truck smells good, (if you like the smell of diesel that is) but trucks with Cats do smell like BO.

My truck has a cat and no strange smell - just regular sweet diesel exhaust.

Did you change your oil recently?

Since our trucks have a blowby tube, the crankcase vents to the atmosphere. When my truck idles I can smell the oil. I can see the smoke/mist on a cold morning (like today, when I opened the gate at my shop). Some brands smell worse than others. Supposedly Rotella is the worst. I use Delo 400.

I had this happen this weekend. We had a snow/ice storm and I drove around in it for about three hours.Came home garaged it and the next day I got this sulfer/egg smell. It seems to be when I run the heat/defroster.The temps warmed up and the truck thawed out overnight.I haven't driven it since so I don't know if it's still a problem.I did lift the hood and look for critters and checked connections and stuff. This is the first time this has happened.Same oil, same fuel as always.I still have my cat, maybe I got to lose that?Haven't changed my oil recently(4K).
