Bad shocks in 27k?

I know these trucks are heavy, but does anyone think it is possible to wear out a set of shocks in 27k? Mine are making a "clanking" noise and have some side to side play that is not coming from the end connections...it is piston versus shock.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Are you running the stock shocks with a 4.5" lift? If it is you need longer shocks.

Nope...longer shocks that came with the lift. There is side to side play between the piston rod and the shock body. Help...the clanking is killing me.

Hopefully there is a shock expert amonst us!

I just installed Bilsteins today and all I can say is if you have not installed Bilstiens already I have NEVER installed a shock that improved ride quality as much as these!

cquestad, I'd call up the shock manufacturer about that. I know the stock shocks aren't good past 20K or so, but 27k out of aftermarket ones? That ain't right.

I agree...I know the Tuff shocks are not the top of the line...but I have had them last forever on other trucks. Maybe Bilsteens are calling. Do they make then for 4-5" of lift?

I will vouch DAYTRIPPERS statement. Blows the Rancho's away. Didn't think shocks could change the ride that much....

Get the Bilsteins, I have never wore a set out. Buy em, install em and forget em.
